the dress they had put her in for this particular game is low cut in a halter style, which means his hand meets bare skin as it sweeps up her spine, calloused fingertips dragging over her smoother skin. robin remains still as he continues his search, and it's only when he reaches her clavicle that she finally speaks up, voice low and warm as if sharing a secret. or an inside joke he isn't yet privy to. ]
Feel anything?

zoro frowns as his hand meets nothing but an expanse of warm, bare skin -- and obviously he has no way of telling the state of the rest of her wardrobe. he stubbornly continues all the way up until his thumb catches at the clasp of the halter neck, which is when zoro draws his hand back away with another exasperated click of his tongue. if you could hear his eyes roll ... ]
Could have warned a guy.
[ is the added gruffness from slowly-encroaching embarrassment or just plain frustration at the situation? who knows. ]
no subject
Is that something you need to be warned about?
[ for someone caught in a resort that all but runs on sex, he's surprisingly reserved. but she can work with that; all men are, at their core, the same. her fingers follow the circumference of his belt, movements slow enough that he can easily pull away if it gets too much, but she doesn't think he would. when she reaches the small of his back, her hands diverge—one mirrors his earlier path on her body while the other slides lower, dipping into his back pocket. it's a surprisingly tight fit, an observation that she keeps to herself, but the amusement still remains. ]
Or perhaps you're shy?
[ well, he doesn't have to worry about that much longer, it seems. her fingers close around the key, hands withdrawing smoothly as she retrieves it. ]
no subject
Probably says more about what kind of person you are, I guess.
[ his answer is laconic, the bored tone almost enough to mask the way he inadvertently takes half a step back purely on automatic -- but zoro is stubborn enough to stop himself from taking another as her hands slide onto his waist in the dark, fingers catching at the edge where his shirt meets the border of his beltline. there is a sweet, floral smell that zoro abruptly realises is coming from her (until now he'd presumed it was just part of the general setup in the room), and zoro cants his head back, nose wrinkling with irritation, and slows his breathing down; a careful, measured exhale that matches the traversal of her hand upwards on his back, ticking up his spine in inches.
even then, zoro twitches like an irritated cat when he's basically groped through the back pocket of his pants. ] Hey--
[ too late; her knuckles, hand closed around something that he realises must be the key, brushes against the small of his back as she retreats back. the clinking sound of the chain would soon announce that his suspicions were correct. ]

it's too soft to be a real laugh, but he'll hear something close to a chuckle, her breath ghosting lightly over his cheek as it disappears entirely. she makes quick work of locating the lock, and the sound of it clicking open has never sounded so sweet, especially after spending an untold amount of time navigating in the dark. after murmuring a quick warning to him, she grasps the knob and turns to open the door, blinking sun spots out of her vision as they step out into the light. ]
no subject
as she pulls away with a low sound of amusement, zoro is conscious -- for the first time in a long while, perhaps -- of sweat gathered in the lines of his palms. a prickling that runs cold over the back of his neck as though phantom afterimages of her fingers. danger. she is dangerous.
it's an unfounded thought, anyone would disregard it -- but zoro has made his living paying attention more to the base animal-like awareness over biased logic (and seen plenty who paid with their lives for choosing the latter), but she is quicker to act than he is, at the moment. the click of the latch turning in its lock is like a steel struck against flint. despite the light that's almost blinding after the darkness they've been subjected to, his gaze is fixed on the first, light-limned outline of the other as robin leads the way.
once out, there's not much chance for any further privacy to question her, if there is anything he could say that won't come across as an equivalent of a sledgehammer; the 'reality' of the games mean that there's an unnecessary number of people waiting, stepping in between zoro and his companion to undo the chains wound around them, but his attention doesn't waver. ]

she expects to find recognition but there's none of that, and the initial surprise that flickers briefly in her gaze disappears as the staff come between them. thus far, it seems as if vivi is the only one who recognizes her out of the people that should, which is in itself a cause for concern, if she wasn't already tipped off to how tricky time and memories seem to be in this place. as of right now, it's likely more of a blessing—a clean slate, as it were, free of baroque works and alabasta. the real question is how she'll navigate it. ]
You look like you have something to ask me. [ now free of the heavy chains, she's able to draw herself up to her full height, head tilted over her shoulder to look at him once more. ] Do you drink?
no subject
it's curious, that. almost as curious as her offer that follows. most people, subject to that kind of scrutinising stare from zoro, would choose to put some distance between themselves and him; nobody wants to be a subject of that. but on the contrary she meets it easily, with a confident, self-assured air as though the thinly veiled hostility means nothing out of the ordinary. ]
Implying that you have things worth asking about?
[ the wado ichimonji is brought back to him in the harness then, and zoro makes no pretense or attempt to hide the way he checks over the weapon, before securing it back against his hip where it belongs. ]
If you're buying, sure.
no subject
I wasn't caught staring, pup. [ another low sound of amusement. ] You tell me.
[ the staff bring out his weapon—a single sword rather than three. interesting. zoro is, of course, more than capable with just one sword, but she does wonder how he'd gotten it back at all. buying it back must have cost a significant amount. by his own merit? perhaps, though robin thinks it's unlikely. maybe with the help of one of his friends. ]
If I'm buying, then I choose the venue.
[ in other words: she's new and doesn't have very much to her name, so it's going to be cheap. once he's satisfied with the condition of his sword, she turns on her heel and makes a loose gesture with her hand. come, it means. ]
no subject
[ a muscle twitches in his jaw, irritation clear in the way he doesn't bother to mask, as he immediately throws that back at her. it's perhaps not the best response, considering, but the nickname doesn't bear repeating -- though he suspects that it's not going to stop her from doing exactly what she wants regardless of others. ] And I wasn't staring.
[ she is tall too, the line of his sight having to tilt a degree upwards in order to meet hers squarely, and it doesn't help at all with the feeling that she is looking down on him. he wouldn't call himself someone who's at all bothered by such trivial thing as height, though ... so maybe it's all just in her attitude, and the continuing sense of half-aggression that prickles along his skin as she gestures him to follow.
it's mostly out of sheer stubbornness that holds him back from taking the first step after her -- but if she is truly someone to be wary of in this place, it's his job to find out why and how. his last warning to his crew regarding the blue-haired assassin went largely ignored, but zoro isn't someone who's petty enough to let that stop him from doing that again, if their safety is in line. and as always, he'd much prefer to put himself in the line of fire than any of the others.
he casts a final, annoyed look at the staff before moving to follow the other, though he remains a couple of steps behind. ]

there is, supposedly, a restaurant that is friendly to newcomers which she initially makes her way to. except, as they pass by the casino on their way there, the staff spot a potential couple and immediately descend on them, insistently ushering them towards another game. from what she can see, there's no restraints and dark rooms this time, just wine and a pack of cards. there's his drink, at least. and she didn't even have to pay.
it's with that in mind that she allows the staff to whisk her into another dressing room, putting her in the tux from earlier and leaving her to wait for her "wife" at one of the empty tables. ]

the wedding gown he's been shoved into should be an elegant affair, all white satin and flowing skirt, but zoro drops into the chair opposite the other in a stance that's anything but. at least he spares her a glance before his attention falls to the single bottle of wine standing on the table between them. ]
You're a cheap date.
no subject
she does laugh at what he says though, warm and a little unexpected even for her; something more genuine compared to the usual self-assured confidence she's exhibited so far. ]
I did say I'd get to pick, no?
[ would he say no to free drinks no matter how they're obtained? doubtful. she reaches for the bottle and uncorks it, pouring a glass for him and then herself. ]
I think it's safe to say we have no interest in these particular questions. [ nodding to the cards between them. ] But if you want to try, be my guest.
no subject
Doesn't seem very fair.
[ free drink is a free drink, and zoro isn't going to turn one down when it's offered to him (it's honestly a miracle that he hasn't had one that's spiked with aphro already, but maybe that's his crazy luck) ... but it's the principle of the thing; free bottle of wine on the house, in exchange for getting put into another stupid costume and having to play along? even to zoro it seems like playing with weighted dice, and moreover, one that she's basically foisted onto him.
well, might as well drown his sorrows in drink.
not the one to mind his manners (at least when alcohol is concerned), zoro leans forward to take the glass and takes a sip, before idly picking up the stack of cards set on the table and flipping the first one over.
"what do you think about when you masturbate?"
right. nevermind. ]
Ugh, [ scrunching up his face in exasperation, zoro will carelessly let the cards fall back on the table again, before taking another big gulp out of the glass. it's not a sweet one, which helps -- if the drink was bad on top of everything, he can't promise what he'd do. ]

the wry tilt to her smile is partially hidden by the glass as she takes another sip. suddenly, it all makes sense. poisons aren't her specialty, but sometimes knowing your enemy requires more than a little risk. robin has her doubts that the resort would seek to truly harm to the degree of anything life-threatening—there's a reason they're all here, and while it's much too soon for her to hypothesize, she does have the beginnings of an idea.
the card zoro drops back onto the table lands face-up, allowing her to see the question printed on it. his reaction to it is about as much as she expects, though there are other things that interest her more. ]
You don't hold yourself like someone who has just arrived. [ she can't know how long he's been here, but it's at least longer than her. ] Is it true, then? A way out has yet to be uncovered?
no subject
Sure there is. Just walk away.
[ a broad sweep of the hand holding the wine glass gestures at the surroundings, and at the doorway on the other side of the room they're in -- for all appearances there's nobody to stop her. it's a deliberate misunderstanding of her words, but maybe it'll tell him more depending on her reaction.
the odd aftertaste of the wine doesn't register to him immediately, remaining oblivious for now; there's something to be said about being indiscriminating about every questionable homebrew and kegs of liquor aboard sailing ships, and he might learn his lessons about that soon? ]
