JOB POSTING ONE! BIG PAYOUT FOR EASY WORK!
I am a pharmacist looking for some brave adventurers willing to go down into the dungeon and collect dongle flower milk for me. I need at least 10 bottles! This is an important ingredient in one of my popular prescriptions. I am not athletic enough to go get it myself and my supplies are running low.
Please deliver all dongle flower milk to the medical shop in the northwest corner of the market. Please note, I need FULL bottles. Do not skimp or I won't pay!
JOB POSTING TWO! HELP A WOMAN'S GROWING BUSINESS!
I am a young lady looking to expand my make-up business. I heard rumors that there's water in the dungeon that could make an AMAZING base for make-up products. But it sounds like it's super scary in there and I don't want to go. Please, someone, help!
You can bring all bottles of dungeon water to the make-up booth in the southeast corner of the market. I'm willing to pay in chips or trade some of my current products. My face masks and nail polishes are really good!
JOB POSTING THREE! PLEASE DON'T ASK WHY!
Hello. I need many dungeon slime cores, so I am looking for everyone and anyone willing to go slime hunting and gather some for me. We can negotiate pay based upon the number of slime cores brought. Do not inquire what the slimes or their cores are needed for.
Please bring all slime and slime core deliveries to back door of the Dried and Baked Sundries shop. Thank you!
JOB POSTING FOUR! I WANT COLLECTABLES!
If you're going into the dungeon, I want collectables. If you find that fabled treasure room, bring me back something cool and shiny. I'm willing to pay good money! I don't care what it is as long as it's hard to get and I can brag to my friends about it.
You can find me drinking in the tavern. I'll be wearing expensive velvet and a tiny hat with a feather.

But insisting as much seems like it would be another mistake-- and something else gets his attention.] Life after life... is that what you meant, in the dream? About trying again? [Some means of starting over... a measure of control over time, or something along those lines.
He can see the stairs coming up... Toma pauses, putting his hand up to signal to Esikko to pause while he moves ahead a bit. Just checking to confirm that nothing is lying in wait between them and the exit.
He returns, once he's satisfied, and adds:] ...What about this life? I know your own world is one thing, but... you certainly aren't alone here.
[He isn't taking himself into account there, of course; even right now, even if he finds himself desperate to stay by Esikko's side, he wouldn't presume to think he counts.]
no subject
( Muttered under his breath, he folds his arms and waits for Toma to indicate the path is clear. Then, he walks, staying close. )
Anyway, yes, that's what I meant. I didn't realize it was you, in the dream. And yes, I'd like to give this life my fullest and stop there.
Despite the problems I have with the House, this place is something of an opportunity, so.
( So, huff, he says. )

Sure, it isn't the kind of social life Toma would want, warped as he is around one single person - but it's a far cry from having nothing, he's pretty sure.
Still: He keeps that to himself - and, as they continue down to the fourth floor, looks at Esikko again with a warm smile. Maybe amused, but without a hint of derision.]
...It's good that you've been able to take it, then.
[And, for the next few minutes of walking, he focuses again on their surroundings - particularly both of their footing as the terrain grows more treacherous, offering a hand to help with Esikko's balance if need be--]
2/2
It's hard to say whether it's the disorientation of the spell's reversal itself or the following jolt of mortification that throws off Toma's focus - but his foot slips, a false stone clicks under his weight, and a giant fuckoff boulder drops into the corridor behind them.
No time to think - his hand goes from Esikko's hand to his back, gripping the back of his shirt as he drags him to the edge of the pathway.] --Move!

( Walking along here, Esikko had felt the presence of magic somewhere beneath them, but he couldn't pinpoint traps, not ones held by panels like that. He could tell something was dangerous, but there was no stopping the fumble of feet, and certainly no stopping Toma's strength in urging him out of the way, even if his body wants to resist falling. )
There's nowhere to go!
( Esikko's feet fumble near the edge of the pathway, wobbling and uncertain. It doesn't matter, with the approaching boulder being so clearly wide along the path, but his weight slips, and he falls with a startled yelp, both of his arms reaching up to shield his face from wherever or however he might land. )
no subject
It is, he's sure, for that same reason that he does what he does when they both go over the edge: Toma wraps his arms around Esikko, maneuvering as best he can in freefall to put himself between the infuriatingly frail prince and the approaching ground.]
no subject
Arms around him protect him from the fall, but the sensation doesn't get any less terrifying. His stomach drops, his eyes squeeze shit, and he's tense all over even when he feels Toma's soft body breaking his fall. It's still enough to knock the wind out of him, and he's frail enough that he has a bit of a coughing fit immediately afterwards, thanks to his weak lungs— but his cool fingers grasp blindly in the dark to find Toma beneath him, checking to ensure he's still moving.
Of course he is, of course he would be, he can regenerate, Esikko thinks, but it was an automatic sort of gesture and he can't stop now. ...Besides, the panic of now being in an entirely different room is still settling in. It's... a little dark? But candlelit. And as he realizes with a groan, he thinks they landed on... tile? Ouch.
Before he can even think to speak, that booming voice sounds out alongside the click of a heavy padlock at the door. EXPLORE KINK OR REMAIN TRAPPED FOREVER! )
... What? ( The weakest little croak. )
no subject
[Not that it really matters, he tells himself; it would just be particularly inconvenient to be stuck down here with an injured man.
What does matter is getting a sense of their situation. ...Though that booming command is a rather haunting bit of context. Toma frowns, pushing at Esikko's arm (though not shoving) to usher him off of him as he sits up and takes in their new surroundings.
A small, dim room, lit only by flickering candle light. The same smooth tile they're lying on lines the walls, interrupted by the locked door (a glance upward confirms that the tunnel they fell down has been shut off, as well), a shower faucet, and a shelf lined with small bottles. And there, in the center of the room, is a bath set into the ground - just big enough to comfortably fit two people, and already full of steaming water.
For some godforsaken reason, there are flower petals floating on its surface.]
...I suppose it thinks we need a bath.
[He knows. He knows more will be expected of them, just-- god dammit.]
no subject
( It's a little short, for Toma to tell him to stop like that, but interestingly enough, Esikko can't tell that whatever had overtaken him has worn off. He still asks about his wellbeing, after all, and his own adrenaline is so pumped up from that fall that he doesn't even stop to try and take in the details of his gaze, or his expressions.
Instead, he's up and dusting himself off, delicate steps taking him to the edge of the bathtub. There, he carefully dips in a finger to the water, squeezing at one of the rose petals like he's testing them. He is. )
I can't disagree that I'd love a bath, but this is hardly the place for it. Are we supposed to be in the mood even with someone ideal, in a place like this? Honestly...
( Withdrawing his hand from the tub, he reaches for the bottles next, opening one of them to give them a curious glance. )
The products do seem nice, at least.
no subject
Toma follows a ways behind (stifling the brief impulse to shove the prince into the water - not the time), and answers his objection with a quiet huff.] Well, of course; as far as the Peacock is concerned, we're always supposed to be in the mood, aren't we?
[Forget that they were just dropped in here, after all that time fighting through a dungeon determined to fuck them over (or just fuck them) any way it possibly can... a few candles and some scented oils, and they're just supposed to be ready to go.
Toma picks up another of those bottles, tilting it to get as good a look as he can at the contents in the dim light.] I suppose that does follow... maybe they're hoping we'll appreciate it, after what's been done to the shared showers. [He pauses, glancing at Esikko with a raised eyebrow.] Though, I suppose you won't have seen those yet. Or stooped to using them even before the refitting.
[...Yeah so that spell sure wore off at some point - though, at the very least, he's sticking to being sort of a brat instead of outright hostile.]
no subject
( The comment comes after a surprised glance back at Toma's comments. But, despite the irritation that briefly flickers across his face, he exhales softly and gestures back to the tub. )
Good. Come here, and I'll wash you at the same time. It'll go quickly, and you're the one who fought most of those creatures.
( So he's dirtier, right? It's surprisingly calm, Esikko's voice, and regardless of whether Toma agrees and joins him or refuses and fights it some more, the topic comes up after a bit of silence, revisiting: )
I started as a low rank here, and kept getting downranked whenever I tried to get out of it. So, I did actually use the shared showers here, for the record.
no subject
[The hell WAS that... at the very least, he guesses it's over now, and Esikko was... responsible about it. He guesses. In that sense, it may be fortunate that they're finding themselves in this situation after it wore off.
...Even if he's still mad about said situation.
Still, it is what it is; he answers Esikko's suggestion with a begrudging nod, and sets down his sword off to the side so he can start undressing. If he didn't take the state Toma was in just minutes ago as a chance to put some bizarre spell on him, he certainly won't now, he figures.
He glances over at Esikko's clarification, and... really considers saying something sarcastic about how, wow, he can't imagine why anyone would want to downrank Esikko.
Instead, though:] That why you said what you did, when we first met? About the House's cruelty.
no subject
( It's an avoidant and uncertain answer, and one that Esikko doesn't even look over to Toma for. He's busy lining up the shampoo and soap along the side of the tub, checking the depth of the water from the side to see if it's going to be more ideal doing this from the inside or out. But his eyes dart back and forth a few times before he does flick them back to Toma, reluctant. )
To be perfectly honest, I don't recall much of what I said to you in our first meeting. I was... ( He trails off, considers his wording, and looks back to the tub water. ) Distracted with a lot, around that time.
( He said a lot of emotionally charged angry things that he did not retain. It happens. )
no subject
That's annoying. Not much point in needling at the prince about things he doesn't even remember saying.
Well, whatever. It isn't like he's unaccustomed to being talked down to on first meetings, with people who have already decided they're better than him. And it isn't like he didn't jab right back.]
Distracted, huh.
[And he adds, as he sets his folded clothes aside:] You might as well plan to get in, too. Even if you weren't fighting as much, we did both walk all the way here.
