JOB POSTING ONE! BIG PAYOUT FOR EASY WORK!
I am a pharmacist looking for some brave adventurers willing to go down into the dungeon and collect dongle flower milk for me. I need at least 10 bottles! This is an important ingredient in one of my popular prescriptions. I am not athletic enough to go get it myself and my supplies are running low.
Please deliver all dongle flower milk to the medical shop in the northwest corner of the market. Please note, I need FULL bottles. Do not skimp or I won't pay!
JOB POSTING TWO! HELP A WOMAN'S GROWING BUSINESS!
I am a young lady looking to expand my make-up business. I heard rumors that there's water in the dungeon that could make an AMAZING base for make-up products. But it sounds like it's super scary in there and I don't want to go. Please, someone, help!
You can bring all bottles of dungeon water to the make-up booth in the southeast corner of the market. I'm willing to pay in chips or trade some of my current products. My face masks and nail polishes are really good!
JOB POSTING THREE! PLEASE DON'T ASK WHY!
Hello. I need many dungeon slime cores, so I am looking for everyone and anyone willing to go slime hunting and gather some for me. We can negotiate pay based upon the number of slime cores brought. Do not inquire what the slimes or their cores are needed for.
Please bring all slime and slime core deliveries to back door of the Dried and Baked Sundries shop. Thank you!
JOB POSTING FOUR! I WANT COLLECTABLES!
If you're going into the dungeon, I want collectables. If you find that fabled treasure room, bring me back something cool and shiny. I'm willing to pay good money! I don't care what it is as long as it's hard to get and I can brag to my friends about it.
You can find me drinking in the tavern. I'll be wearing expensive velvet and a tiny hat with a feather.

alhaitham, for all his no good tendencies in enraging kaveh, has seen kaveh cry enough times to think it might happen now.
he can hear the shake in kaveh’s slow, supposedly steadying breath. not hard to tell he’s trying to hold it together, not when alhaitham has known him as long as he has. alhaitham isn’t the only one with a pretty wet sheen on his lips, but kaveh’s got the same shine to his eyes. he can feel the quiver in his palms laid against kaveh still. ]
So fast, senior? I haven’t had time to see if our last attempt was fruitful.
[ he’s being intentionally insufferable, the behavior like an old familiar comfort. and very obviously intentional because when alhaitham moves away a second later, his slipping from kaveh’s tight waist as he steps away to test those invisible bounds, it’s clear he was being intentionally misunderstanding.
he doesn’t expect it to work, but the next step he takes is free. with a little surprise, he glances back at kaveh. ]
Would you look at that. A success after all.

[ Kaveh won't realize until later that Alhaitham is goading him on purpose, baiting him out of his emotion and into an easier-to-handle frustration. Right now, he's busy scolding him, because in the time it takes for him to start to be mortified at the assertion, Alhaitham is already backing away, making it clear that he's trying to be annoying.
Seriously, how did he ever miss this man—
Alhaitham does step away, though, and Kaveh breathes the softest of sighs. This is a good thing, isn't it? The fact that they can separate from one another without the need to do more than what they've already done... it's a good thing. It has to be, because he can't. He can't let it happen. Not again. Alhaitham will just have to meet the resort's needs with someone else—
(He tries to ignore the way that thought hurts.) ]
Right. A success.
[ His voice sounds hollow, even to him. ]
Anyway, you— [ A breath. ] What brought you down into the dungeon, Alhaitham? If there's something you need, maybe I can get it for you instead.

despite the bait, the frustration only sticks a moment. he can read the depression a mile away, but he’s used to seeing it affixed to kaveh in relationship to some job he’s taken with a client that has him jumping through hoops or when inspiration is eluding him on a particular piece. or, he supposes, when kaveh’s had a few too many drinks and starts to lament the mountain of debt he’s chained to.
…well, maybe he’s not so unused to seeing kaveh like this. he’s just used to knowing precisely what has kaveh so down. what all signs point to this time — alhaitham is wary to make assumptions. ]
I’m a ‘monster’, [ alhaitham says with a voice dryer than the desert, his expression flat as he lifts the leather tail. ] I woke up down here.
[ he’s only vaguely exploring; one place doesn’t mean more to him than another here. he’s heard there was a tavern up top, though. perhaps they should head there. ]
I should be asking you.
[ kaveh is the “adventurer” here. ]

I don't need any help. I've.. I've been here long enough, Alhaitham. I have everything I need, at this point.
[ And more, but he doesn't say that. Alhaitham will see it on his own, anyway, once they're out of here, the way that people fawn over him for his higher rank, the far too-large suite in which he lives alone with Mehrak. ]
I just meant... do you need clothes, or something? You can't be comfortable wearing that.
[ Pot calling kettle, much? In his own mind, of course, Kaveh has rationalized the need for this outfit, even if it is rather skimpy—though hardly the skimpiest thing he has worn, here—but that doesn't mean Alhaitham has to be just as uncomfortable, does it?
(Not to mention that Kaveh would rather not have to look at him like this, all leather and defined muscle. It's too easy to think about—
No. Deep breath. Distraction.) ]
The dungeon isn't... I mean, doing some of the quests is a good idea, but we can always come back for that later on.

excuse him if it’s difficult to believe kaveh’s doing better in a sex resort.
at least until he considers that kaveh has such a friendly, outgoing personality and he looks plenty attractive. ah. perhaps kaveh is doing better here…
alhaitham, however, is completely out of place. the leather feels entirely theatrical, too tight for starters and then there’s the faux straps of leather caging his chest and arms that just feels particularly absurd in how useless it is. decorative. he thinks might feel less revealed in a decently sized towel. at least it would be functional.
kaveh doesn’t need to volunteer twice. ]
You’re offering to take me shopping?
[ he is uncomfortable, a little more obvious when alhaitham hooks a finger under the strap of leather around his throat, as if he can create more breathing space. it was fine until the offer of something actually comfortable was made. his typical attire has the decency to let him move how he likes. he doesn’t inquire on if kaveh is getting a different outfit — or is this how he dresses now? it’ll still take him awhile to familiarize himself with this new hair cut, or lack there of. alhaitham has to pull his gaze up from kaveh’s bare waist.
either way, they’re freed from the trap and there’s no good reason to linger. he’s less than concerned about the dungeon. ]
I think I’ll take you up on the offer.
[ if kaveh’s doing better here, alhaitham would certainly appreciate a change of clothes. something without a tail, preferably. ]
Should I count this towards the rent you owe me?
no subject
[ It's a confirmation that Alhaitham probably doesn't need, clever as he is; the meaning of Kaveh's words is clear even as he queries them. After all, even he can notice at a glance how uncomfortable the clothes would be, but Alhaitham is wearing them, so... At least, at the store, he'll be able to get something closer to what he normally wears—maybe not always in appearance, but in comfort and freedom of movement, at the very least.
He smiles when Alhaitham agrees—and then immediately scowls, arms folding defensively over his chest. ]
If you really want to bring that up here, then just tell me how much I owe you. I can pay it off right now.
[ Not that there's such a thing as a Teyvat—Golden Peacock Resort and Casino exchange, but he can work it out based on the price of daily goods, if he spends a little time. None of that is the point, though. Alhaitham is being annoying again, but... maybe he needs that. Maybe Alhaitham being annoying can keep him sane for now. Or something.
He sighs. ]
In that case, let's stop by my suite so I can change out of this "armor". It's one thing to wear it down here like they recommend, but I'd rather have a little more on if we're going shopping. And you... You should think about what you might want or need.
no subject
[ alhaitham moves on seamlessly and smooth as kaveh. what a turn it is that kaveh is offering to buy him things and while some might think that would throw him off balance, it suits him just as well. kaveh's not the type to turn anyone away, not that alhaitham requires much. as much as he enjoyed the financial freedom he had obtained in sumeru, he's not an extravagant spender. as much as he hassles kaveh about rent, it's as similar to the drinks on his tab at the tavern and how haphazardly their meals out and groceries have been halved.
if their situation truly bothered him, he wouldn't have suggested it.
that doesn't mean he'll turn away kaveh's generous offer of shopping. he's quite looking forward to having comfortable clothes.
he turns on heel, since they've clearly decided the dungeon has nothing they need to tangle with right now, a change of clothes far more appealing than whatever exploration awaits them in the dungeon. his thoughts stumble at the mention of the "armor" kaveh is wearing and his feet stall. it looks good, almost leaves his mouth. instead:
Multiple costume changes, hm? [ his fingers twitch, acquainted now with the bare skin of kaveh's waist. he glances back over his shoulder, ] And no time for a single haircut?
