alhaitham doesn't repeatedly test the bubble they're trapped inside. the other's reaction makes it fairly clear there's something in the area that they've triggered and while he suspects it's no simple means of disengaging the trap without completing its demands... it would be terribly useful to know how to avoid this situation in the future. at a glance, this particular spot seems no different than any other. ]

I'll imagine the solution to this puzzle is related to the game. Forcing our hand in participating.

[ it's helpful for initially settling in, sure, but things change so often around here that it's only so useful. the golden peacock is expansive, and always hosting strange, unique events. but alhaitham's estimation is nevertheless rather accurate. ]

[ alhaitham stares up, unimpressed at the tiny sprig that dan heng points out as the culprit. out of all the green, vines twisting and creeping around, the decorated sprig sticks out apart from the rest. he crosses his arms over his chest, if he recalls correctly — ]
I’ve passed that same little sprig several times now.
[ he’s seen it decorating several archways he’s passed under. if he’s peacefully passed under it before, perhaps his initial suspicion wasn’t wrong after all. ]
So I suppose they’re safe to pass by alone.

And you're likely correct. We can certainly try to remove it, but my experience here tells me that it will be a waste of time. Still, there's no reason not to try, I suppose.

as unlikely as this situation is, alhaitham aims to be adaptable. this is a circumstance in which fighting will help very little — doesn’t mean he’s eager to liplock if there’s another way. still, he finds dan heng’s collected demeanor agreeable enough to work through this painlessly.
dan heng is a bit too short to reach the offending plant, though. alhaitham takes matters into his own hands at the comment, quite literally as he stretches up on his tip toes — but it seems their culprit has planned for the brutish tactic. his hand meets an invisible wall, the same caging them in. ]
Ah. Well then, there goes that option.
[ every bit unfortunate it seems the simplest option doesn’t work. ]

Not in my experience, no. Worse, failing to meet their expectations often leads to punishment - or as I imagine the House might see it: gentle persuasion.

The type of intimacy necessary varies, and it is not always easy to predict, but the one common denominator is physicality of some kind. A kiss, at its most innocent.
