JOB POSTING ONE! BIG PAYOUT FOR EASY WORK!
I am a pharmacist looking for some brave adventurers willing to go down into the dungeon and collect dongle flower milk for me. I need at least 10 bottles! This is an important ingredient in one of my popular prescriptions. I am not athletic enough to go get it myself and my supplies are running low.
Please deliver all dongle flower milk to the medical shop in the northwest corner of the market. Please note, I need FULL bottles. Do not skimp or I won't pay!
JOB POSTING TWO! HELP A WOMAN'S GROWING BUSINESS!
I am a young lady looking to expand my make-up business. I heard rumors that there's water in the dungeon that could make an AMAZING base for make-up products. But it sounds like it's super scary in there and I don't want to go. Please, someone, help!
You can bring all bottles of dungeon water to the make-up booth in the southeast corner of the market. I'm willing to pay in chips or trade some of my current products. My face masks and nail polishes are really good!
JOB POSTING THREE! PLEASE DON'T ASK WHY!
Hello. I need many dungeon slime cores, so I am looking for everyone and anyone willing to go slime hunting and gather some for me. We can negotiate pay based upon the number of slime cores brought. Do not inquire what the slimes or their cores are needed for.
Please bring all slime and slime core deliveries to back door of the Dried and Baked Sundries shop. Thank you!
JOB POSTING FOUR! I WANT COLLECTABLES!
If you're going into the dungeon, I want collectables. If you find that fabled treasure room, bring me back something cool and shiny. I'm willing to pay good money! I don't care what it is as long as it's hard to get and I can brag to my friends about it.
You can find me drinking in the tavern. I'll be wearing expensive velvet and a tiny hat with a feather.

[There's no doubting that the creature in the fog is a monster; it goes without saying, even just from the glowing eyes and the growling voice. But when the mist parts enough that she can start to make out the shape of its snout, and its ears, and the ragged fur and whiskers that surround its piercing gaze, something stirs subconsciously in the back of her otherwise frightened mind, momentarily overriding her previous terror in favor of something almost like perplexed confusion.
If this creature wanted to kill her, she thinks in a moment of bizarre rationality, it could've done so at any time. It didn't need to follow her, or announce its presence to her, and it certainly didn't need to tell her to run. So why, then, would it bother to stop to talk to her? If it just wanted a chase, there were plenty of better ways it could've done that.
She swallows hard, not making a move for her crossbow, but squaring her shoulders and facing the presence head-on.]
I don't want to stay here any longer than I have to, but I need to find the path that goes further down into the dungeon. Do you know where it is?
[She sucks a shaky breath.]
If this is your forest, and you want me out of it, it'd be simpler to just tell me the way to go. And then I could leave you alone that much faster. That makes sense, doesn't it?

My forest-? No.
[There is a low, bubbling laugh from the beast at the presumption. He holds no authority here, yet of course the raw aura of intimidation would insinuate otherwise. His head tilts downward, long neck craning to meet a human level. He tilts one way and begins to pace around her in a wide circle, still at a distance, still somewhat obscured in the clouded fog.]
I have been spirited away to this place. A cruel indignity for a fox.
[Despite the fog, what is clear is the blistered sores upon him, trickling blood as he stalks around her. His fur is stained in patches, yet he doesn't seems all the concerned with his own injury. If they were caused by another monster, a trap he fell into, or merely self inflicted is entirely unclear.
He jumps with abrupt and erratic swiftness, landing close to her with teeth and glowing eyes. Curiously, not snapping nor lashing out,]
Run! Do not stop until you find your escape! Lest I catch and devour you, first.
[oh, he's just being tough, and he puts on a good show of it! Very intimidating, trying to scare her along her way.
He's a self professed monster, but a worse kind of beast would lure her with sweet words and heed her stay. Better to be the kind that frightens her onward, so she doesn't return to such danger.]

— Gumiho?
[It visibly startles her when he leaps, causing her to take a step backwards — and wobble as her foot hits a branch, leaving her to stumble back another few to catch herself amidst the leaves, which unfortunately also puts her crossbow out of reach unless she's willing to advance forward again to try to reclaim it.]
What else is out here, that could hurt something as big as you so badly?
[That crossbow is looking like less and less of an option all the time, all things considered, but she's still loath to leave it behind. Her eyes flick from the creature to her fallen weapon, but she makes no immediate move toward trying to retrieve it — or to flee, for that matter.]

Other monsters and men prowl here. Sniffing and snarling, eager to ravage fawning or frozen maidens like yourself. They have ignored you as you have been my quarry, but they will take their opportunity to descend upon you, should they sense my disinterest.
[he places a gnarled paw to the crossbow she had left in her stumbling. With a swipe, he tosses it not directly towards her, but further along the path. Where she could run and grab it on her way.]
So go! Better you flee and not look back upon this place. I, too, am a monster and a man. You have been well warned of my nature.
[And yet he is sure giving her a lot of time and explanation to get away, so that nature might just be a lie to scare her along her way. Is it worth it to her to chance that, though? When someone tells you who they are, best to believe them, right?]
no subject
And, well, it wouldn't be the first time she'd been lost in a forest and threatened with ravaging. Or ravishing. That memory, too, makes her shiver.
But then he says a monster and a man, and all of a sudden something clicks.]
All right — I will. I'll run.
[She says, conspicuously not running as her frigid fingers fumble with her pack.]
But if you're the one who's kept me safe all this time, I can't just let that go, either.
[She's gone plenty of days without food before. She'll manage. Among the dried sundries in her pack, she finds some rabbit jerky and fruit preserves, and drags her boot in a swipe along the ground to clear a dry space to place them on the ground before backing away toward where he'd flung her crossbow.]
I hate it when people get hurt because of me, so at least eat these and get your strength back, all right?

[She obviously sees through the act, in some part at least. It cracks through some of the feral instincts rampaging within the Shichibi, which set him off into this state in the first place. His outrage, his anguish, they are undercut to be shown kindness despite his growling and baring of teeth.
He feels foolish, which is exactly how he should feel to regain a better sense of his humanity. Huffing and lowering his head, the beast shakes his shoulders back through to his hips, tails flaring and playing in the mist around them. The blood splatters off him, shaken free like a wet dog. Some of the sores even slough off, like parasites, rather than true injuries. They disappear as if mere manifestations of the mind. It's a metaphor, don't worry to much about the logic.
He's not completely returned to his better judgement, but there's some progress as he mutters, less than frightful,]
... thank you. [he bows his head, respectfully, then eats the rations in a single gulp of his maw. The lick of his teeth might be seen as cute or unnerving, but what is clear is his expression has softened somewhat towards her when his raises his gaze back upright with a more noble stance than he first approached with,
Guardian might fit his so called nature better than predator ever did, but that is up to her perception, not his own.]
Go. I will follow and keep your trail hidden from others. [really, he should follow her to also escape the forest, but the thought doesn't yet cross his mind to be self interested]

It's strange how the creature's situation leaves her reminiscing about the crown prince, in some bizarre way. Frightening and vicious and even cruel to everyone who beheld him, but even he was once just a scared little boy with the whole world out to get him — and like he'd said, the emperor must always be perfect. No room for anything but infallibility, no matter how lonely that made him.
She bends to retrieve her weapon, without turning away or taking her eyes off him; when she rises upright again, the strap returns to her shoulder, the bow hanging unneeded off her back.]
My name is Penelope.
[...Sort of. That seems to matter less and less all the time, in this resort.]
If — if you think of something else you want before I escape this forest, just say so.
[And finally, as he's been pressing her, she turns in the direction he'd indicated for her to flee and starts making her way — briskly, but certainly not at a speed like she's being chased for her life — through the forest again.]

[Penelope would find many the similarity between the Shichibi before her now and the emperor she thinks of in the moment. A fate he was born into, the curse of expectation from all around him, and the indignant rage that could come with that.
Yet, that rage fades in the presence of a caring woman, tamed in part with kindness. A trite tale, but one old and persistent, too. Beasts of men are not always lost causes, and the rot that plagues him dissolves away the more he considers her willingness to help him despite his scare tactics. He nods to hear her name,]
Tsuneki. [his family name, but it will do to be shared in such a form. His other name, the one his mother gave him, sits at the edge of his mind. A man he knows he is, yet is not accessible to his memory while he is still somewhat frenzied,
He can't resist so much animalistic desire when he watches her run off. That is a fleeing bird meant to be chased down. He begins to give pursuit, long legs perfectly capable of running her down, but the environment providing him needed restraint. He sets about bobbing and weaving through the trees where he could fit.
Still, if she cannot go any faster, he might to lung at her like the fleeing prey she appears as,]
Faster! Go! Do not allow me to catch you!
