PHOENIX CASINO HALL
WELCOME TO THE NEXT 168 HOURS
Phoenix Casino is a-flutter with activity and packed to the beak with guests. As a famously ever-changing space, the staff would be remiss if they didn't deck the crown jewel of the Golden Peacock out. The casino glitters from top to bottom, shining brighter than diamonds, rubies, sapphires, opals! Party-goers are shiny and glamorous with picture perfect makeup, fluttering gowns, and sharp suits. Card tables are packed and the slot machines are a-ringing as guests play, play, play! Prizes, luxury, booze, attractive people, it's the place that everyone wants to be at.
Those people being dragged inside by some invisible force...? Silly, they were so excited to come that their bodies moved before they realized what was happening. Those are struggles of joy and definitely not the casino's infamous ghost hands dragging unwilling guests to the party at the behest of the house. Look, they're literally hurling their bodies at the card tables with unrestrained glee!
All clocks indicating day hours and night hours have been removed from the casino. Once a guest has entered, their Watch will jam, making it impossible to keep track of the time. You don't need to worry about that tonight.
▶ All characters on the TDM are WILDCARDS, which means they have not yet been assigned a card value. Suits will not manifest until characters are accepted into the game.
▶ All TDMs are game canon. This TDM acts as the game's January event.
▶ Current characters may top level on the TDM. Any current characters posting to the TDM should note they are current in their subject header.
▶ The top level directory is for new characters only. We want to make sure new characters are prioritized and receive attention! If you would be interested in a game invitation, you can note that in your comment header. This month we also have an ongoing ATP / EMP where players can connect. Please feel free to utilize this for all of your peafowl needs!
▶ If you aren't satisfied with these prompts, please feel free to check out our LOCATIONS to explore more of the resort!
▶ Smut threads that take place on this TDM can be used for rewards. If both parties in the smut thread join the game, you may retroactively apply the character's initial card values to your 52 bank. If one character does not join the game the thread will not be applicable toward rewards (as that character would not have a card value). The character that does join would still receive a small payout for the encounter. Hopefully it was a fun thread regardless!

[ Well, this sure is a game. He's sitting with Dan Heng, carefully observing the other man and feeling quite interested in how this will play out. He was a little more keen on the more exciting games, like the dirty dice game, but this is ... nice? A little bit of a reprieve from the chaos.
He sips his drink, he watches Dan Heng's face as he pulls his card out and considers the question. It's... a heavy question, Wei Wuxian knows his answer would be the same though. ]
[ a reprieve from the chaos is exactly what dan heng is looking for, honestly. he's still being forced to be sociable, but that's something that's gotten easier since becoming a nameless, so it does not bother him overmuch. still, this party has been very long..
tapping the card lightly with his fingertip, dan heng soon sits back again, legs crossed. ]
Mm. I would do nearly anything to protect those I love. I take it you understand.
[ It's a game, there are stakes involved, if one of them messes up the house of cards, they'll lose a bunch of credits and the other one will win a bunch of credits. Yet, this is pretty chill all things considered. Compared to the rest of the party, that is.
Wei Wuxian nods his understanding to Dan Heng, giving a smile in response. ]
I do, intimately so. Should we pull another card?
[ And if Dan Heng agrees, he'll reach for a card, a little near the top but not too high. Just a bit of a challenge. When he plucks the card with deft fingers, he flips it through his fingertips for a moment before reading aloud — ]
[ dan heng watches as the man carefully extracts a card. it looks as if beating him at this game might prove difficult. dan heng is a very careful, measured man, dexterous and cautious, but still, it may not be enough.
but only time will tell. at that question, he arches a brow, because damn. that's rough, buddy. ]
Oh. Well..
[ he doesn't need to answer if he would rather not, of course, but that would be tantamount to forfeiting, yes? dan heng tilts his head. ]
[ It'll come down to luck, if that's the case. Wei Wuxian can be careful with his touch when he wants to be, delicate in his grip. That's what's needed for a game like this.
But it is a game and he has to answer, he knows. The question isn't something he likes, not the type of thing he wants to admit to, especially not to a stranger. But he doesn't want to lose.
So, when Dan Heng asks if he'll answer, he nods. ]
Yes. [ Is that an answer to Dan Heng or to the question? There's a pause here before he adds again — ] ... Yes.
[ That one's definitely an answer to the question. Silence lingers in the air for a moment before Wei Wuxian flips the card between his fingers and lays it face down on the table. He doesn't pluck another card though, giving Dan Heng the time to make any commentary he might want. ]
[ oh. dan heng wouldn't have been surprised if he had backed out - that is a deeply personal question, even if he is not expected to expound upon his answer. mild surprise flits across his expression, before dan heng simply nods his head. ]
I can understand what that is like.
[ for most of his life he was terribly, achingly lonely, after all - only recently has he found the warmth of acceptance.. and something like home. he'll leave the line of conversation open, if wei wuxian would like to follow the thread, but in case he would not, dan heng leans in to deftly pluck another card from near the center of the house.
he flips it over, face up on the table where they can both read - Early to bed, or a night owl? - though he does not yet answer. ]
[ Wei Wuxian's eyes flicker to Dan Heng as he replies, meeting his gaze for a moment in quiet understanding. He doesn't want to expound on his answer, to give it more life than he has already, but he does appreciate the sympathetic tone of Dan Heng's reply. He gets it, which is nice. That's all Wei Wuxian could ask for.
But he'll watch as he picks up another card, lays it out on the table for them both to read and he hums, curious. His voice takes on the happy note from before, quickly responding to the new card with cheer. ]
Night owl, naturally. There's too much to do during the day, sleep is such a time sink as it is!
[ he doesn't elaborate, which is fine, and to be expected from a stranger if he's honest, so it's just as well. dan heng hums in response, his expression a little more easy, losing some of its stiff tension. ]
I agree. I can't remember the last time I slept a full six to eight hours.
[ he's up late working, then up early to do more work, usually - of his own volition, of course. there's simply much to be done, and every time he tries to go to sleep early, he ends up getting lost in the data bank for hours, instead. ]
Sleep is necessary for proper brain function, however, so I do hope that you achieve some rest every night.
[ Wei Wuxian lifts a hand, waving it dismissively at Dan Heng's well intentioned concern. He sleeps! Of course he sleeps! ]
Bed at chou shi, rising at si shi. Like a normal person. [ And NOT like a crazy lunatic who wakes up at mao shi instead, thank you very much. ] I get plenty of rest!
[ Though he doesn't realize that the units of time he just referred to are things Dan Heng might not possibly know. He thinks everyone knows it! It's time, after all!
But he's already reaching for a new card, even before Dan Heng can reply. ]
Hm. Ah! "Who is the most important person in your life?" [ What is WITH these questions? ] ... Huh.
[ HEY.... he is so normal. The normalest. Ignore the necromancy.
But either way, onto the next question and he looks a little stumped himself because, well, exactly what Dan Heng said. He has a few important people in his life. ]
And yet... you're only supposed to pick one. Can you narrow yours down?
[ He thinks he might have his but. Well. It's an odd thing to admit out loud. ]
[ just the idea of choosing only one person feels like a betrayal of the others.. and makes his heart ache. this consternation plays clearly across his features, however stiff he might seem about it. this all but physically pains him. ]
I suppose I can narrow it down to my fellow crewmates, though there are many others I am close with, as well.
[ people who are important to him, or who have become important to him. ]
[ Wei Wuxian can see the pain on Dan Heng's expression as he tries to answer and he feels for him, he does. If this was years ago for him, he'd probably be stuck in a similar boat. But as it is, his list has shifted over time and these days, he's alone aside from just one person.
But still, it feels cheap to win in this way and Wei Wuxian doesn't know what to do. His expression goes a little blank for a moment before —
Suddenly, he strikes out, knocking the house of cards over completely and watching as it falls apart on the table. On his watch flashes the word LOSER and on Dan Heng's, WINNER with a large sum of chips being transferred to him as a result. ]
Ha... ha ha! Clumsy me, looks like I lost. Sucks for me, I guess.
[ dan heng starts at the sudden movement, watching as the house of cards collapses like a disturbed souffle - and just like that, the game is over, and dan heng is the recipient of many chips. ]
I -
[ he begins, then pauses. it's quite clear what wei wuxian has done, and dan heng can't help but to feel a little grateful, even though he can't help the little thorn of guilt that comes along with it. this man sacrificed a good amount of currency, just so dan heng didn't have to suffer and stutter through an impossible answer - something very kind to do for someone who is ultimately a complete stranger.
his gaze flits briefly down, apologetic, then lifts again. he won't thank wei wuxian out loud, won't draw attention to his ploy, lest it embarrass him, but there gratitude in dan heng's eyes is unmistakable. ]
I see. Well, in that case, perhaps we can find something to eat and continue our conversation.
[ Wei Wuxian doesn't need attention brought to his actions, doesn't mind it at all. He feels satisfied in what he did, like it was the right thing to do, and that's the only assurance he needs. Instead, he sits back and grins brightly, eyes crinkling somewhat at the corners with the wideness of his smile. ]
That sounds like a great idea to me. There's all kinds of food here — and a buffet! Let's go grab something to eat.
[ He'll push up then from the seat he's on and bounce a little on his feet as he waits for Dan Heng to get up as well. Then, off they go! Time for food! ]
house of cards!

Hard not to when it's someone who matters, right?
