【 Thank you for choosing the Golden Peacock, 5-star resort and casino. You are currently registered as a WILDCARD in our system.
Due to a high volume of check-ins, temporary accommodations have been made in our mid-rank suites for all new arrivals. We ask current mid-rank guests to welcome any new arrivals that may temporarily be assigned to their room while we process reservations.
Exciting news! The Phoenix Casino has undergone a renovation. Guests are invited to come enjoy refreshed facilities, games, and lounges. We don't think you'll ever want to leave!
Additionally, the casino will be hosting an upper rank soiree at the end of the month. All guests rank 9 and above are invited to attend. Any +1s of low rank may only attend as a pet or personal attendant. Otherwise, low ranks are not welcome.
We aim to have all guests moved into their suites as soon as possible. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience! 】

[As a leash is pushed into his hands, Xiao Xingchen recalls the voice from earlier that night. He heard the events in great detail, and he can't help but feel pity on the man as well--not that he would even have room to object as the previous owner disappears into the thick of the party once more with other leashed guests in tow. As Xiao Xingchen's "dog" had crossed someone of a higher rank and is currently being punished elsewhere, he had no one before now being entrusted with the one making a bit of a fuss earlier. While waiting for the other man to be free, he can take care of this one.
Xiao Xingchen turns to the leashed man with a warm smile. Being rank 10 leaves him among the least celebrated of the higher ranks, though he hardly minds. Perhaps staying in this place too long means he's become accustomed to these parties and arrangements as well, not even yet thinking to apologize for this whole situation.
It's not like he's going to ask for anything outright objectionable, however. So it's surely fine.]
Ah, why don't you go pick up some hors d'oeuvres for us? I'll leave it to you to choose what looks the best.
[ The emphasis he places on that "master" is one that comes off a bit more biting than reverent. By the time his leash ends up in Xiao Xingchan's possession, the novelty has long since worn off for Sha-Ming, his attention focused less on his "master" and more on how uncomfortable the cool air brushing against his exposed skin feels even indoors.
He'll return a few moments later with what appears to be a charcuterie board, except it looks like Sha-Ming barely put any effort into making it look presentable. The board is filled with thinly sliced prosciutto, some bits of brie and other assorted cheese, a bit of grilled vegetables, and finally a handful of what appear to be fried dough balls. Perhaps there was a fancier name for those, but he doesn't exactly care enough to find out. Either way, his presentation is definitely sloppy to any other onlookers. Not like it'd make a difference to this guy, right...? ]
Here. Enjoy.
[ There's not even a hint of delicacy in his tone or the way he slaps down the board before Xiao Xingchen's table. He's clearly checked out. ]
[Xiao Xingchen’s brow furrows at the clatter. Well, given the events from earlier, he supposed this sort of attitude is to be expected. But of course this whole situation wouldn’t have any ordinary person acting bright and chipper, if they could get away with it.
With a sigh, he reaches for something on the plate with a fork, expression softening again.]
I apologize. I assume you must be new to this place.
[While it’s not like he can easily memorize any face or voice, he hasn’t heard anyone making such a fuss quite like that before.]
[ Sha-Ming just shrugs languidly. He's taking it in stride for what it's worth, but there's still a small part of him that expected Heaven to be a little more peaceful than where he actually ended up. ]
Something like that. ...Tch, guess even Heaven's got its cutthroat side.
[ The last part is more murmured to himself, with a slight hard edge as he looks down frowning at the man taking a bite from the haphazardly chosen appetizers. ]
[Well, Xiao Xingchen has long since learned about all of the different things that people believe, but it feels like not entirely the time to focus on that when they all are dealing with the same situation right now.]
Well, perhaps you were going there. [He tries to not sound reluctant in his reassurance, as strange as it is to think of every mortal going to heaven when they die.] But you've been... intercepted along the way.
[This isn't the first time he's heard of someone experiencing the last moments of their life before waking here.]
IV.

Heaven?
[He pauses, thinking, before speaking with awe in his words.]
Were you ascending to godhood before you arrived here?
[Their understandings of what heaven is might be a bit different.]

[ Different is one way to put it, as Sha-Ming blinks in confusion at this guy's apparent veneration in his tone. ]
Not exactly? I meant, like, the one where ya end up after you die.
