【 Thank you for choosing the Golden Peacock, 5-star resort and casino. You are currently registered as a WILDCARD in our system.
We are thrilled to announce that the Golden Peacock will be embracing autumn with a special outing. Current and new guests are invited to join us for a refreshing outdoor experience where participants can unplug, unwind, and connect with nature. During this time, all Watches will be disabled to the most basic functions (texting, calls, checking chip account) in order to encourage guests to disconnect.
Please look forward to two weeks of finding yourself amongst the trees. We hope you enjoy your stay, and have a fan-CAMP-stic time. 】

CAMPING
GETTING OFF THE GRID
As the resort moves into what it claims is autumn, the days grow shorter. The projected sun in the Vale sets in the afternoon, after which a faint chill falls. Then there’s the most excessive transformation of all – a portion of the Vale has transformed into a campground complete with a scenic lake, seemingly overnight. Statues nearby have been dressed up with flannel jackets and suspenders. Folksy banjo fills the air without any discernible source.
A section of the campgrounds have been reserved for tents. These tents vary in size, shape, and supplies. All tents, regardless of quality, are supplied with sex toys and lube. Staff and long-standing guests all agree — pretending to live in the wilderness and 'rough it' for a while is thrilling. This is what the peasants feel like all the time!

HOME ON THE RANGE
Welcome to the Peacock Campgrounds! Nicknamed the Stomping Grounds by long-standing guests. Rustic and right off a sparkling lake, guests will find everything they need to live in the wilderness. Staff have expertly set up fire pits, benches, hammocks, and a wooden shed to act as a tool depository. There's even an outhouse, which is a real novelty to many of the long-standing guests. Do they just... squat over that hole and do their business? How wild!
Unlike previous resort-sponsored excursions, guests are expected to manage without the help of staff. That pile of wood won't be replenished once used; guests will have to go chop down trees and split their own. Food won't magically appear in their tents regardless of rank. Camping is all about living off the land. Though staff make themselves scarce to make the experience feel real, they lurk in the shadows, discreetly providing necessary tools and fixing broken equipment so guests won't struggle too much. It isn't fun if it's real hardship, after all!

ACTIVITIES
TWO WEEKS OF ROUGHING IT
Camping can't be all about survival. Where's the fun in that? Before 'leaving', the staff arrange activities and events for guests to enjoy. A wooden bulletin board outlines times for group hikes, camping experiences, and wilderness delights. Adirondack chairs line the edge of the lake and a few tire swings hang over the water, tied to strong tree branches. For the first week and a half the weather is pleasant and sunny. Perfect for camping.
At night, acoustic guitars and other wooden instruments come out so that guests can make music around the bonfire. Projected stars dapple the night sky, forming various constellations sourced from guest worlds. The moon enters a different phase each night, shining a gentle silver across the campgrounds. Why not pull your sweetheart in and cuddle beneath the night sky? It's so romantic.

HOWLING
CALL OF THE WILD
Temperatures drop drastically at night as the camping excursion nears its end. Nights become so chilly that morning dew frosts over, crunching beneath guest feet. Every day the light and its warmth set a little bit earlier. Staff remain elusive and do not provide warmer blankets or clothes for guests, leaving them to cuddle for warmth or find other ways to sleep comfortably during nightly cold snaps.
The moon hits its apex on the final night of camping. Unlike the other nights, this full moon shines blood red. The Vale stills under this ominous sign, silent. Snowflakes begins to fall, spreading an endless clean sheet across the campgrounds. That reflected pink hue is inescapable.

He’s an awful, awful person. None of this has been a dream and he deserves to be here, separated from everyone he cares about. And they won’t even miss that he’s gone.
Though there’s clearly no physical reaction, River is surprised to hear a voice nearby. Carefully, he listens to the shuffling sounds of their approach, assuming that the person that the voice belongs to is just being careful to not look at the eye as well. Suddenly his eyes are covered and the spell is broken. River’s legs go out from under him as he suddenly has to hold his own weight again. Almost frantically he wipes the tears from his eyes.
“Thank you, I really appreciate the help.” The relief is clear in his voice as he turns to look at his rescuer. Before he can hold it back, he let’s out a small “oh” of surprise as he realizes the man is blind.

"Let's get you out of here. Can you stand? I can carry you if you need."
He isn't sure about what other matter of things this strange creature inflicts, but what it does is plenty horrific enough.
no subject
"Yes, thank you, I can stand. Just a bit of a shock to the system I guess." He's a little slow in rising again, mostly because he's not sure he actually can stand right up until he's on his feet again. But his legs hold him fine and nods before immediately feeling ridiculous for nodding at a blind man.
"Okay, let's go. I want to be as far away from that thing as possible." Of course, the investigator in him also wants to, well, investigate but for the moment, the now dwindling fear and guilt is still there and he needs to leave and reassess.
"What even is that thing anyway?
no subject
"I cannot say. Whatever it is, it's a horrific creature," Xiao Xingchen says, his light and prim tone taking on a harder edge. "Stunning its prey for food would at least be understandable. This one only does so for the torment of its victims."
Despite all his time here - and how easy it had become to accept certain matters he once thought unthinkable - he's often reminded of the many cruel tricks it can play.
After a brief pause, his tone softens again.
"But I might not have reached you in time, were that not the case here."
no subject
It's really impressive.
As Xiao Xingchen begins to explain, if there really even is an explanation, River can't help but be worried. For the first few days he was here, he thought he was asleep or in a coma or something. God knew he'd had enough concussions in his life to warrant such a thing, but now it feels like it's been too long and there are far too many details and weird shit his brain would never come up with. Or so he thinks. Who knows? Maybe he's just fully lost his mind. When nothing makes sense, anything can make sense.
He can tell the other man is trying to be helpful, but River isn't sure there is anything that could help in that moment. His brain is simply having a hard time accepting that this place is real.
"I really don't know what to say. I can't thank you enough for getting me out of there, but it's just that," he pauses, trailing off for a moment before continuing. "I think I'm just freaking out a bit here. I cannot understand where I am or what is happening. One moment I'm living my life, normal as can be and the next, I'm in the weird camp. I feel like I'm losing my mind."
no subject
How can he possibly put this to make sense of it at all?
"The only idea I can suggest is to think of all this as a dream," Xiao Xingchen says after a pause. "One that may feel all too real and you might not know when you'll awaken again, but you will have many to aid you and keep you safe until that time comes."
Carefully, he reaches out to put a hand on the man's shoulder.
He didn't want to delude himself or to distort his understanding of the world for his own comfort - much less does he wish to delude another - but he's also found that sometimes, it's the only way a person can do to press on.
no subject
But then he stops and thinks about it and simply cannot accept that any of this is real.
The feel of the man’s hand on his shoulder actually helps a lot. There’s a comfort in it that he hasn’t felt in a long time, even before he came to this place, or dream, or whatever it is.
“Thank you. Mostly that is what I’ve been doing. This place is so strange it sometimes feels like the only way my brain can accept what I’m seeing is to believe it is a dream and sometimes it seems too crazy even for all of that.” He stops and sighs again, shaking his head for a moment before he smiles. It is nice to know that at least one person here was willing to come to his aid, and a complete stranger at that.
“Any chance you’d be willing to give me the lay of the land here? I mean, I have caught the gist of it. Some of what’s going on here has been very evident. But, what exactly is this place?”
no subject
Xiao Xingchen can't help but laugh a bit at his own comment. Even if he's not the highest rank here, he's sure he lives in greater physical comfort than anyone in the world where he's from. It feels all too strange and unlike himself, yet some days, he feels compelled to experience what more there is.
"Beyond that, this place reminds me very much of a certain idea that not too many here know of. Are you familiar with any sort of magic?"
He knows by now that people come from so many different places. Some are similar to one if cultivators didn't exist, and only the common folk did. Some also have an entirely different sort of magic as well. Better to figure that out before speaking of an idea that will be especially be difficult to believe.
