【 Thank you for choosing the Golden Peacock, 5-star resort and casino. You are currently registered as a WILDCARD in our system. We have arranged for a selection of basement suites to temporarily house new arrivals until reservations have been processed. We hope you'll join us in giving our new guests a warm and loving welcome.
We have an exciting announcement! The house will be hosting a carnival for all guests to celebrate the Golden Peacock's birthday. Please look forward to food, games, and attractions in the Cloud-Dwelling Garden. The carnival will be available for guests to enjoy for seven days. Happy birthday week, Golden Peacock*!
We hope you are as thrilled as we are! And, as always, we hope you enjoy your stay.
*Please note that this is an arbitrarily chosen date for the Golden Peacock's birthday, which is unknown. 】
▶ All characters on the TDM are WILDCARDS, which means they have not yet been assigned a card value. Suits will not manifest until characters are accepted into the game.
▶ All TDMs are game canon and this TDM acts as the game's July event. The carnival will run July 15th - July 22nd.
▶ The top level directory is for new characters only. We want to make sure new characters are prioritized and receive attention! If you would be interested in a game invitation, you can note that in your comment header. We also have a summer ATP / EMP where players can connect. Please feel free to utilize this for all of your peafowl needs!
▶ If you aren't satisfied with these prompts, please feel free to check out our LOCATIONS to explore more of the resort!
▶ Smut threads that take place on this TDM can be used for rewards. If both parties in the smut thread join the game, you may retroactively apply the character's initial card values to your 52 bank. If one character does not join the game the thread will not be applicable toward rewards (as that character would not have a card value). The character that does join would still receive a small payout for the encounter. Hopefully it was a fun thread regardless!
▶ We ask you to kindly add content warnings to your threads as appropriate.
▶ If you do not currently have permissions and kinks listed in your character’s journal we suggest leaving a note in your top level of any limits or boundaries for other players to reference.
[Vanitas doesn't know why seeing Penelope in such a casual setting brings warmth to his features. Surely the festival food isn't drugged. That would be such a shame now that he's half a potato deep into his meal. Then again, it's not unreasonable that the red tint across his cheeks following the prolonged eye contact has something to do with what the two of them got up to not so long ago.]
I'm not cute. [He only gets the words out clearly because he has to hurry to chew and swallow, then pointing an accusatory finger at her in warning.] You're the cute one here. [Vanitas looks at her drink, and without asking permission has his mouth on it for a sip, nodding in approval afterward.] That's not bad. Want some of this?
[Why yes, he is going to pretend she didn't just call him cute, and yes it's going to be on his mind the whole night. In the meanwhile he's going to act natural as he walks beside her, still eating, but less cutely now that he's been spotted.]
[Oh, so we're just. We're just UNHYGIENICALLY SHARING FOOD THEN I GUESS, which is certainly a thing to say about the fact that they've literally had sex with each other and Vanitas's mouth has been a number of indecent places far more scandalous than on her amakaze cup. But you know, maybe it's just the principle of the thing.
And she'd definitely be affronted about it, too, except for the part about how he's offering her some of his own food in return, and it really smells good...]
Well, if you're going to steal mine, then it's only fair...! Here, just trade me, then!
[And because he's the one with a free hand, it's easy enough to shove her cup into it and then snatch away his sweet potato — a surprisingly good, the hot and crispy nature of it after the smooth chill of her dessert crepe.]
[Vanitas is not above pointing out that he knows what she tastes like, there's not much she should be shy about with him. Besides, it's a two way street, he's not completely interested in mooching off of her.]
Fine, it's a fair enough trade. [His grin widens when he has the cup to himself, amazed at the taste and the sudden urge to tell her that cute isn't the only thing that she is. Even without knowing exactly why, he feels the familiar sensation of arousal filling him up like a slow trickle. It's not super noticeable now, but the longer they make eye contact the faster it grows.]
I'm sure you already know. Your face is pretty, sure, but when you're embarrassed, upset, or moaning you can be incredibly cute.
[She blinks at him, still nibbling at the sweet potato — not enough to really start feeling the heat it invokes yet, but certainly enough to set her at ease with a feeling of flushed unwinding calm.]
But you're always such a jerk when I'm — wait. Is that why you're such a jerk? Because you think it's cute when I'm annoyed with you?
[Vanitas opens his mouth to argue with her, but yeah, no. He's got nothing, she hit the nail on the head.]
Guilty. I've always been like this, though. I'm worse to the people I like the most. [Maybe that's too much honesty for the casualness of their conversation but something about tonight made it easier to admit to. Or is the food laced with truth serum?]
But to your point, you're cute all of the time, I wouldn't like you any less if I was nice to you. It's something I'll work on. [Vanitas doesn't even know why he's promising something like this. He's never offered self-improvement as a solution to anyone else, but here they are. Vanitas cuts in front of her abruptly to steal a kiss, taking a sip of the drink after.]
[Like Vanitas, the truth slides out altogether too easily, and the more she tries to fill her mouth with sweet potato to stop it, the smoother it only seems to get.]
A lot of people are terrible and cruel because they're awful. How is the person you're being a jerk to supposed to know the difference? And anyway, maybe they're sick and tired of being surrounded by jerks, and then you're just making yourself one m— mmph!
[Oh, well, hello. That's certainly a way to get her to stop her lecturing, and she doesn't altogether seem to mind.]
It's not stupid if the point of it is to keep people away. It's actually quite brilliant--when it works.
[He doesn't like his honesty in the moment, but he can't tell whether it's the potato that he's already eaten half of, or something else, but at least he's not feral and in heat or trying to get her out of her clothes at least. He can manage a little bit of blushing and oversharing.]
I think it would be better if people assumed I'm a bad person. They'll keep their distance and not have to see that I'm.. just weak and insecure. [Vanitas stops walking to kiss her again, but this time to stop himself from speaking, not so much to cut off her lecture. Maybe oversharing is the problem. He looks her in the eyes when they part and then the flush to his cheeks intensifies suddenly.] I'm sorry. W-what were you saying?
[It stills her steps a moment, caught by a sudden flash of aching memory. Because she's heard words like those before, hasn't she, or something very like them? The future emperor must always be perfect, without weaknesses. Isn't that why people hold others at arm's length, behind high stone walls of severity? Because they can't be seen as they really are. Because they have to be something to the world around them, regardless of who they are inside.
Is it because he didn't have a number over his head, that she failed to notice it? Because she never stopped to think that a path like that might even be available at all?
Who does that say more about, she wonders — him or herself?]
Are you? A bad person.
[She looks at him, searching, before taking him by the arm and dragging him off the main thoroughfare, to somewhere that's a little quieter and less...clamorous.]
I once knew someone who held a knife to my throat the first time I met him, and said he'd cut my head off if he didn't like my answers to his questions. That person told me I should be his wife, that I should be by his side forever. Are you worse than that?
[Vanitas is guilty of using cruel or vulgar language to keep himself unpalatable for the people around him. It's cover for the insecurities he would rather keep hidden. No one can target his vulnerabilities if he doesn't show them--yet here he goes stating them explicitly because he was stupid enough to trust the food here.
At least it's Penelope that he's revealing himself to and not anyone he dislikes. She pulls him away to a quiet area and he doesn't protest. His trust in the festival food has dwindled, but since they're already here it can't get worse, might as well finish what they have.]
No, I'm...[He considers for a while, wondering if he could show restraint here even if he wanted to.] But I have lied and cheated to manipulate the people around me. I cornered and forced a kiss onto a woman against her will to distract her from killing me. I've tried to kill my best friend to stop him from looking into my past.. I'm certainly not good. [Vanitas looks elsewhere then back at Penelope, expecting disgust in response.] Maybe I am bad, but in a different way.
[The answer comes fast — maybe too fast, urgent in a way she can't quite explain.]
That you won't manipulate me, hurt me, or kill me. Swear it on something that matters to you, and then...then maybe it won't hurt so much when you're a jerk to me. Maybe then I'll be able to...
[She draws a breath that shakes without her really meaning it to.]
...to tell the difference, between you and them...
[Surprise overtakes his expression, his eyes searching hers for answers to the suddenness of the demand, but he nods.]
I swear it. I won't kill you. I won't ever hurt you intentionally. And if I do manipulate you, it'll never be for malicious reasons. [Vanitas lowers his voice for that last part, and it must be the food, but her lips look soft and inviting. He has to clear his throat to compose and refocus himself.] I swear it on my honor, Penelope. I don't have anything else that matters to me anymore.
[He feels a tightness in his chest that he identifies as guilt for having planted this much doubt in her. It's true, he can be relentless and terrible in his teasing, but Vanitas doesn't ever want to be someone who reminds her of those people in her life. The sound of her voice wavering has him closing any distance between them to wrap his arms around her protectively.]
