MEET THE TEAM
♦ DIAMONDS GAME ♦
OMEGADOME: HUNTING GAME
A cheerful pair of game managers stand outside the conservatory doors and block all guests that try to enter. They quickly explain that a special Diamonds game is taking place inside and only guests that agree to participate may enter. This game is a physical exercise that riffs on "Hunting", which is a popular sport in many different countries and civilizations. Of course, it is one hundred percent safe, and all guests that play are eligible to win massive chip prizes, store vouchers, fabulous prizes, and more.
Details about the game? Those can't be shared outside of the conservatory. Only the brave and those willing to risks will reap the benefits of this Diamonds game. So step right up, dear guests, and sign this waiver before stepping into the flourishing beauty of the conservatory for a brand new adventure.
♥ HEARTS GAME ♥
DOUBLES' THERMO: SURVIVAL GAME
Chickadees is sparing no expense on advertising their e-sport games over the course of the sports festival. Posters, notifications, stickers, fliers! Come one, come all. Sports don't need to be physical. Guests that duck into the arcade will find a variety of e-sport games to enjoy, but the real showstopper that every single employee is aggressively promoting is the new immersive VR game, DOUBLES' THERMO.
A large swath of egg-shaped pods have been installed in the back half of Chickadees. Any guest that shows an iota of interest will be assaulted by employees encouraging them to give it a try. They will offer vouchers for a free session, encourage with mentions of prizes that can be won from the arcade's coveted prize wall, and persuade by praising how high tech and immersive the experience is. Some employees are desperate enough to trick or push guests into the pods if they aren't willing to go in themselves.
However they've ended up inside the VR egg, guests will find themselves submerged in strange fluid as the lid closes. Everything fades away into darkness as the game loads...
♣ CLUBS GAME ♣
QUACK AND COVER: SHOOTING GAME
Cloaca & Dagger has temporarily outfitted itself as a neon-bright paintball course. Gone are the wild sex setups in exchange for series of obstacles and obstructions for guests to navigate while in pursuit of paintball championship. This high intensity game of strategy and physical fitness promises to exhilarate! Welcome to Quack and Cover, a game where your shooting skills and ingenuity will be put to the test.
So say the game managers at the door before following up with a few disclaimers. Cloaca & Dagger is not responsible for any physical or psychological trauma guests may incur while inside. Guests that join the game will then be outfitted in tight black underarmor and supplied with a paintball gun and protective mask before being let loose on the course.
♠ SPADES GAME ♠
PECKING ORDER: MMA GAME
During night hours, many long-standing guests make their way through Talon toward the gym’s creaky basement stairs. Three floors down and then through a desolate hallway with littered with abandoned equipment. Double doors wait at the end, unassuming until they’ve been opened…
Flashing lights, jeers, and the thick odor of sweat. You’ve found the Pecking Order, a late-night mixed martial arts event where guests show their prowess in the ring. Spectating guests shout and messily eat snacks on make-shift bleachers while fighters clash inches away, using only their bodies to fight for dominance and win. Pecking Order is very informal; guests only need to sign up in order to get added to the docket. Anyone can watch, though they will be vaguely warned at the door that even spectating comes with risks.
LOCKER ROOMS
YOU WASH MY BACK, I'LL WASH YOURS
Every training and game location has a door labeled LOCKER ROOM right outside the entrance. These doors all connect to the same massive locker room. The magic of these locker room doors goes one way. Trying to go back to the place you just were by backtracking will not work — you’ll just end up in Beak! All guests will be advised to finish their games before hitting the showers.
The Golden Peacock is proud to present our upgraded and extended locker room. Please come in and enjoy the facilities, catch-up with your teammates, and enjoy some healthy drinks provided by our favorite resort convenience store, Cock-a-doodle-doo’s!

[ Minato repeats the name before nodding, committing it to memory. ]
Arisato. Arisato Minato.
[ The point of this game was to bond and cultivate a connection with another person, wasn't it? So it's probably best to drop all formalities within reason. Can't be speaking too rudely to someone who's his elder after all. ]
Just "Minato" is okay though.
[ Great, it's settled. Looks like they'll be working together from this point out. Minato takes one last sip of water before rising as well. He points in a direction a little closer to the shore. ]
I think they were that way. ...I don't know if a hut near the ocean is a good idea though.
[ Who knows how far high tide will sweep in? On the other hand, there were probably more huts deeper in the jungle, but who knows what sort of creatures lurked about in there? ]
[ She nods once, a bit briskly. She can commit that to memory pretty easily. She's not all that concerned about formalities herself. There are more important things to worry about. Right? ]
The alternative is to disassemble it and rebuild it somewhere else... or try to rough it. Which we could do. Main problem is... again... no blasted tools. We're gonna have to try and figure out how to do everything from scratch.
[ She grumbles, half to herself. ]
At least it's not raining on us... yet. But we might be stuck with the stupid huts as they are, at least until we figure something else out.
[ Disassemble a hut and rebuild it elsewhere with their bare hands? Yikes. City boy won't be much help with that. ]
We could take turns keeping watch.
[ Minato's already assuming they'll be stuck here for a few days. ]
Wake the other person up if the water comes in too close.
[ Now that he's said it aloud... it sounds like a pretty dumb idea. But they're grasping at straws, so he'll volunteer literally any idea.
On second thought -- maybe they should be keeping watch anyways. Who knows what'll come lurking about once night falls... There isn't much he can do to defend himself without an Evoker.
[ Unfortunately for Red, out of Persona 3 through 5, Persona 3 was the one without a fishing mini game. Yu and Akira truly put him to shame... ]
No.
[ He's never gone fishing before, and there's never been any reason for Minato to know about edible plants until now. But considering his penchant for hoarding Rancid Gravy and Odd Morsels off the ground to nibble on for a little more HP, his stomach can successfully digest most things.
He trails after Red, his loafers faring about as well as her own footwear. ]
...
[ He can practically smell the exasperation in the air, which is fair, in his humble opinion. ]
I haven't fished before, and I... don't know anything about plants.
...well, no point in worrying about that, then. We'll see what we can scrape together. Not like I've done any spear fishing in my life either.
[ She rubs at her temple all the same. This is going to be one Hell of an experience, isn't it? As they come up on the sand, she spots that little hut, set up toward the tree line. It looks... well, like it'll at least keep the sun off. She approaches with a hint of caution, but she's reasonably sure there's nothing here that's going to jump out and try to murder them.
Probably.
The flimsy door she gently pushes open and finds that the hut itself is... well, it's a hut. One room, but clean(ish), with a floor covered in palm fronds and a little hearth in one corner. That's about it. ]
...I hope whoever is watching us is enjoying themselves. [ It's a sarcastic little grumble, but entirely heartfelt. ]
[ Minato follows Red and surveys the hut as well. The furnishings are barebones, but... it could almost certainly be worse. Clean(ish) with a roof will absolutely suffice given their current circumstances. ]
Do you really think we're being watched?
[ There's a lot that he still doesn't understand about this place. On the other hand, it's not too far-fetched of a hypothesis. There has to be some form of basic security within Golden Peacock, which probably boiled down to some form of surveillance.
...in any event, nope, doesn't look like this hut has anything for boiling water. Or for cooking, for that matter. ]
Why wouldn't we be? They're probably watching us the rest of the time, too. Especially since we're in some weird... fake reality. We're in those pods, right? And all of this is an illusion or something?
[ She doesn't totally get how VR works, but she's doing her best. ]
[ Minato wanders over to the dead hearth. No tinder or kindling in sight... Looks like this island is being serious about making them work. Did they even have any flint available? ]
Yeah. Nothing here is real.
[ But it feels so real, including the gnawing hunger in his stomach. ]
...maybe there's fruit somewhere in the forest.
[ He can't fish, but surely he'd recognize some fruit native to the island? ]
Still, the mention of coconuts has Minato's eyes lighting up, unlike before where Red's questions seemed to be piling onto his shoulders. Each response in the negative meant having to disappoint his company time and time again. ]
Well... that's kinda got some hydration and food covered, at least for the short-term. I'm gonna see if I can find some appropriate rocks we can at least use for primitive tools until we can sort something better. Sound good?
[ She's not exactly taking charge, but she's quietly relieved that the kid seems to have something he can do to help out. ]
Meet you back here in a few minutes.
[ And with that, she's off to go look for some rocks... and some appropriate branches, among other things. ]
[ He'll respond with a nod. From what Minato can recall, the trees in question shouldn't be too far off. So he'll wander away from hut, retracing some earlier steps where he'd spied those potential sources of food.
And there they are, standing tall and with fruit aplenty. He'd picked up a few rocks during his walk and sets to throwing them at each coconut to knock it down. They tumble to the floor one by one, leaving him with the spoils of five ripe coconuts.
Minato takes them into his arms to begin heading back in the direction of the hut.
Except, a few minutes pass, then a few more.
He never makes it back to the hut. There's only a stray dropped coconut left behind in the forest, a sign that he actually had been on his way back before taking a different path. ]
[ Red doesn't notice that her new companion is "missing" for a little bit. But after a time where he doesn't reappear she decides to go looking for him. He's just a kid, after all, and she's not about to let him get lost all on his lonesome. She sets out - and a down the path she finds the abandoned coconut.
Huh.
She lifts her head and sniffs the air for a moment, brow furrowing. She... thinks she can pick him up. So after a moment she turns off the path herself and starts into the undergrowth. Where'd he end up? ]
[ Off the path, there's some downtrodden foliage with plenty of broken branches. Several bushes that have clearly been disturbed too, leaves scattered everywhere and their limbs snapped off, as though something large had shoved its way through the area.
The further she ventures forth, the stronger Minato's scent lingers. He must be nearby. In fact, he's --
leaping out from the underbrush covered in dirt, as though he'd taken a fall somewhere along the line. And though he's trying to get away from something, there are three coconuts still clutched in his arms.
He spots Red and shakes his head, frazzled. ]
We need to run --
[ And before anymore questions can be asked, there's a furious roar as a pissed-off bear comes galloping towards them on all fours, a bear that had spent the past few weeks watching and waiting for a certain coconut tree's fruit to ripen for harvest. ]
[ At first, Red's not that disturbed - although there's something else in the air, a scent she can't place - and she looks mildly annoyed as Minato comes bursting out of the undergrowth. ]
Kid, what are you-?
[ Oh.
That's why. Her eyes widen and she immediately gives him a shove to keep him moving. ]
Go-!
[ And quite suddenly she's sprouting red fur and looking a little more like an animal herself. She's not going to try and wrestle the damn thing, but she does give it a snarl that seems to make it at least slow for a moment.
Hey, every moment counts.
And she stoops to try and grab a stick. This is gonna get rough. ]
[ "Go!" says Red with a shove to force him forward, but Minato only stumbles, hesitating as he turns to look at Red and the irate bear. He can't just leave her, even if he didn't have any ideas of his own on how to chase it off.
His eyes widen as his partner's transformation unfolds before his eyes. Instead of a person, where Red once stood is someone that resembles something in between human and dog.
The bear freezes, thrown for a loop by the sudden transformation too. It stops and stares for a moment, sniffing the air, as though it can't quite believe what it's seeing. This is no person, but instead, maybe a beast? They should partake in this challenge then as beasts do.
The beast stands on two legs, stretching its arms out to let out a deep roar. Maybe it can frighten this strange-looking dog out of its path and then continue chasing after the coconut thief. ]
Red takes a deep breath and then yells, trying to get bigger and meaner, because that's what's supposed to work on bears, right? She steps forward, fluffing herself up, hoping that'll chase it off.
Maybe she'll be too much trouble for it.
Although a part of her is also very aware that Minato isn't running yet. ]
[ The weird dog -- yells back? The bear flinches, clearly not expecting its opponent to bark back. Not only is it an unusual dog, but the creature's crimson fur stands on end as it steps towards it...
Also, how is this dog balancing so well on two feet?! That's weird!
The bear grunts, lowering its arms and casting one last glance at Weird Dog. What's with all the weird animals on this island? It snorts, falling back onto all fours before high tailing away, disappearing back into the thick of the forest from whence it came.
Minato's nowhere to be seen too, though Red can be reassured that he'd escaped back to the hut after Red insisted he gets moving. She'll find him sitting on the floor, coconuts askew on the ground next to him as he catches his breath. ]
[ Red is quietly relieved that the bear decides not to test its luck with her. Mainly because she doesn't think she could actually fight a no-shit bear. So watches it as it shuffles off back into the trees and then exhales.
Since when do bears even live on islands like this?
She trots back to the hut, fully human by the time she pokes her head through the door. ]
Hey! You OK?
[ There's some concern in her voice and features. And why shouldn't there be? ]
[ Ever since Romantic Scenario Pusher was integrated into the game, that's when!
Minato casts his company a concerned look upon her entrance. Forget about if he was okay when Red's the one who'd presumably 1v1'd a bear?? ]
Yeah, I'm -- I'm okay. Thanks for coming to save me.
[ Still covered in a bit of dirt from an earlier fall, but definitely not too worse for wear.
He shakes his head at Red's question. ]
I don't know... I went back to the trees I saw earlier, and... it came running in after I collected the fruit.
[ Never mind that though. There's been a burning question ever since he'd witnessed Red's transformation. Minato takes one of the nearby coconuts into his hands as he glances up at his current companion. ]
[ She feels slightly self-conscious for a moment and then shrugs as she takes the coconut. ]
You've gotta eat too, you know. Or... drink or something.
[ She frowns and crouches to pick up the rock she'd found. It was pointy enough that she though it would work for this...]
I don't wanna find out if we can starve to death in VR. [ She lifts the rock and - thwack, thwack - she hammers at some of the divots in the surface of the fruit until it finally gives way and she lifts to take a long drink from the liquid inside. ]
no subject
[ Red tentatively splashes a bit more water on her face and shoulders, as if to cool herself once more. ]
We might as well look. It can't hurt, right?
[ She stands up and then pauses. ]
Oh, yeah. Call me Red.

Poor Red, stuck with a dead weight partner. ]

It's probably built above the tideline, but... can't hurt to keep an eye out. Last thing we want is to die here. Even if it is... fake.
[ She's trudging up, feet pressing into the sand and slipping here and there. ]
Do you know anything about fishing? Or edible plants?

No.

[ Because it very well could. Not only did it have its coconuts "stolen," but its pride might be wounded from getting scared off.
For now though, signs seem to be pointing to yes regarding the non-mundanity of Red's transformations. ]
I've never seen anyone do that before.
