ANY CAR IN A STORM
PHOENIX CASINO HALL
WELCOME TO THE NEXT 168 HOURS
Phoenix Casino is a-flutter with activity and packed to the beak with guests. As a famously ever-changing space, the staff would be remiss if they didn't deck the crown jewel of the Golden Peacock out. The casino glitters from top to bottom, shining brighter than diamonds, rubies, sapphires, opals! Party-goers are shiny and glamorous with picture perfect makeup, fluttering gowns, and sharp suits. Card tables are packed and the slot machines are a-ringing as guests play, play, play! Prizes, luxury, booze, attractive people, it's the place that everyone wants to be at.
Those people being dragged inside by some invisible force...? Silly, they were so excited to come that their bodies moved before they realized what was happening. Those are struggles of joy and definitely not the casino's infamous ghost hands dragging unwilling guests to the party at the behest of the house. Look, they're literally hurling their bodies at the card tables with unrestrained glee!
All clocks indicating day hours and night hours have been removed from the casino. Once a guest has entered, their Watch will jam, making it impossible to keep track of the time. You don't need to worry about that tonight.
▶ All characters on the TDM are WILDCARDS, which means they have not yet been assigned a card value. Suits will not manifest until characters are accepted into the game.
▶ All TDMs are game canon. This TDM acts as the game's January event.
▶ Current characters may top level on the TDM. Any current characters posting to the TDM should note they are current in their subject header.
▶ The top level directory is for new characters only. We want to make sure new characters are prioritized and receive attention! If you would be interested in a game invitation, you can note that in your comment header. This month we also have an ongoing ATP / EMP where players can connect. Please feel free to utilize this for all of your peafowl needs!
▶ If you aren't satisfied with these prompts, please feel free to check out our LOCATIONS to explore more of the resort!
▶ Smut threads that take place on this TDM can be used for rewards. If both parties in the smut thread join the game, you may retroactively apply the character's initial card values to your 52 bank. If one character does not join the game the thread will not be applicable toward rewards (as that character would not have a card value). The character that does join would still receive a small payout for the encounter. Hopefully it was a fun thread regardless!

Zoro wakes up first, which gives him a little time to survey the room and determine that no, there isn't an imminent threat. He also gets the chance to take a good look at his companion without making it weird.
Once the other man is up, there seems to be a quiet understanding between them. They're just two dudes in the same odd situation; they can be chill. Zoro tends to be suspicious by nature, but over the last few days it's been tempered down to a healthy level of caution.
"Recover," he echoes, then nods. If this guy thinks it's all as simple and harmless as that, perhaps it's so. He's been trying to avoid consuming anything besides food, water, and alcohol the last few days, but it makes sense this would be provided for the other patrons. "Right."
Two things about his companion's next words surprise him: the first is that this is his room, which sounds frighteningly permanent (and how the hell did Zoro get here, too, then? He doesn't remember meeting him beforehand). The second and more pressing detail is his name; Luffy has talked (yelled) about his idol and the origins of his straw hat enough times that Zoro could never forget it, and really, how common of a name is — "Shanks?"
He turns to face him. "Luffy's Shanks?" He's met so many new people that apparently came from places he's never heard of that it feels strange to meet someone notorious in his inner circle.
If asked, Shanks would point out it's fair and wise to be cautious in this place. Especially since, sometimes, it's the food, the water and the booze one has to look out for. They can be spiked with aphrodisiacs.
The rooms are, sadly, long-term. Shanks refuses to call this situation permanent, but he's, officially, been there for a year.
"Indeed, though I've not been called that before." He's amused when he speaks. "I did know Luffy when he was younger."
More significantly, they made a very important promise to each other. And, apparently, Luffy talks about him, to his crew. Or other people. This could always be another person. But he's definitely not Sanji, or Nami, or Usopp. And other people from their world typically recognize Shanks another way, Red-Haired Shanks, rather than Luffy's Shanks.
"With the way you say that...are you from our world, then?"
"Huh." A grin spreads over Zoro's features as he gets another good look at Shanks, bemused at the coincidence. "Small world." Given his prior occupation, he doesn't exactly get giddy the way Luffy does when he meets an infamous pirate. But it's cool, running into the man that inspired Luffy's dream. After all, the Straw Hat Pirates wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for the original man with the straw hat.
"Yeah. Roronoa Zoro." He nods curtly, briefly wondering if Shanks might recognize his name as a bounty hunter. But he won't introduce himself that way, instead adding: "I'm Luffy's First Mate." He pauses. "Which basically just means I keep him out of trouble." A boldfaced fib; it's Nami that's saddled with that challenging task.
After the shock of meeting someone from their world (nevermind waking up in his bed) has worn off, Zoro's mind shifts back to his other concern. "What did you mean, this is your room? Are you staying here on purpose?" The possibility hasn't occurred to him; he'd assumed everyone was some sort of captive, and that perhaps those that seemed content enough have simply succumbed to Stockholm Syndrome.
"Sometimes. After all, others from your crew are here," Shanks points out. "And we had a Marine here at one point. Koby. And one of my old friends is here, as well." If only he had known, he might have warned Zoro it was Buggy.
He does, in fact, recognize that name, but the first thing that flickers through his mind is, "Oh! Luffy's mentioned you. He really is gathering a great crew." He does know about Zoro being a pirate hunter, but that's a huge part of why it stands out that he joined Luffy. That's just one of Luffy's strengths.
Shanks chuckles.
"It is the First Mate's job to keep a captain out of trouble." At least, that's how it was supposed to work.
While it's weak, Shanks does smile to Zoro's question.
"No. I simply can't find my way out. Been a year already." And no, he's not happy about it, but he's trying to stay positive. They'll figure it out. Eventually.
"That's true." Zoro nods, briefly flashing back to the last few days spent with some of his crew. Not to mention the strangers. "Oh, Koby." He remembers Koby. He thinks of him as Luffy's Koby, much like how he thinks of the man before him as Luffy's Shanks. "What happened to him?" The mention of at one point makes him hopeful that perhaps Koby has found the way out, even if Nami hasn't.
He looks curious at the mention of an old friend. "That's cool. One of your crew?" He wouldn't normally be this chatty (yes, this is chatty for him) with a stranger, but he feels a little more comfortable now knowing who's in the room with him. Anyone Luffy likes this much has to be a good guy.
Zoro chuckles fondly at Shanks' kind words about his crew, nodding in agreement. Everyone on the crew has valuable skills that keep them alive at sea and on land. He briefly wonders about Usopp, whom no one has apparently seen. He can only hope he's still got his freedom, unlike the rest of them.
"Oh." He makes a face, the same feeling of concern washing over him when he'd learned Nami has been here for the same duration. She might be the most clever person he knows, and from what he understands, Shanks is a smart guy, too. It doesn't bode well for him if the two of them are still stuck here after all this time. "I see."
He looks down at the tray of food on his lap, forgotten in the last few minutes of conversation. He takes a bite, annoyed that it's delicious. Everything here is delicious and comfortable. He doesn't like it; makes it easier to become complacent. "I'll be out of your hair in a second." This is Shanks' room, and he can imagine the older man wants his privacy back sooner than later. He'd leave right now, really, if he knew where to go.
"He vanished. We've noticed some of the hotel occupants turn into the statues you see. So most likely, that is what became of him, though I haven't seen his statue, specifically, yet." At least, that's what Shanks has surmised. He's sad about it. The young Marine had seemed clever, with a strong moral compass. That's not something he can say about most Marines.
"Not currently," Shanks admits with a small shrug, not wanting to talk about their falling out, ever, not even to himself. "Buggy. Perhaps you've into him, already. Seems most of the Straw Hats do, at one point or another."
None of them have really talked specifics, though, so Shanks doesn't know the connection between than Orange Town, even though he knows of what happened to Orange Town, just not who saved it.
Shanks' own expression shifts with compassion. It's not encouraging, no, to hear others have been stuck that long.
"We'll figure it out, yet. Nami has been making details maps of the area, and we explore it. Sometimes new areas open up, as well," Shanks tries to assure Zoro.
There's a shake of Shanks' head as his hand moves to clap Zoro's shoulder, if Zoro allows it.
"Nonsense. Stay as long as you like," he offers. And if Shanks had any idea of Zoro's tendencies, he might feel obligated to escort him. At least he does ask, out of curiosity, "where is room? Did they assign you one, yet? Sometimes they take a while."
this works 💖!
