ANY CAR IN A STORM
PHOENIX CASINO HALL
WELCOME TO THE NEXT 168 HOURS
Phoenix Casino is a-flutter with activity and packed to the beak with guests. As a famously ever-changing space, the staff would be remiss if they didn't deck the crown jewel of the Golden Peacock out. The casino glitters from top to bottom, shining brighter than diamonds, rubies, sapphires, opals! Party-goers are shiny and glamorous with picture perfect makeup, fluttering gowns, and sharp suits. Card tables are packed and the slot machines are a-ringing as guests play, play, play! Prizes, luxury, booze, attractive people, it's the place that everyone wants to be at.
Those people being dragged inside by some invisible force...? Silly, they were so excited to come that their bodies moved before they realized what was happening. Those are struggles of joy and definitely not the casino's infamous ghost hands dragging unwilling guests to the party at the behest of the house. Look, they're literally hurling their bodies at the card tables with unrestrained glee!
All clocks indicating day hours and night hours have been removed from the casino. Once a guest has entered, their Watch will jam, making it impossible to keep track of the time. You don't need to worry about that tonight.

▶ All TDMs are game canon. This TDM acts as the game's January event.
▶ Current characters may top level on the TDM. Any current characters posting to the TDM should note they are current in their subject header.
▶ The top level directory is for new characters only. We want to make sure new characters are prioritized and receive attention! If you would be interested in a game invitation, you can note that in your comment header. This month we also have an ongoing ATP / EMP where players can connect. Please feel free to utilize this for all of your peafowl needs!
▶ If you aren't satisfied with these prompts, please feel free to check out our LOCATIONS to explore more of the resort!
▶ Smut threads that take place on this TDM can be used for rewards. If both parties in the smut thread join the game, you may retroactively apply the character's initial card values to your 52 bank. If one character does not join the game the thread will not be applicable toward rewards (as that character would not have a card value). The character that does join would still receive a small payout for the encounter. Hopefully it was a fun thread regardless!

( at least he was paying attention on their behalf- reira on the other hand seemed to have wandering eyes, taking in the sights, sounds as they progressed like a deer in front of headlights. at the very least she was attentive to their conversation. )
Oh that's interesting...
( that's really all she could say, because she hadn't quite figured out the reality of things yet. in her mind, she figured it was probably some unique service offering in an equally unique town in the middle of a country she hadn't visited. most likely small in nature yet....they had advanced technology somehow?
but before she could dive further into that, they were nearing the waitress and she smiled at him softly before answering. )
Well they aren't anything out of this world....in fact this entire place seems pretty familiar to what I've seen before. I'm just more surprised by all the sex going around, right? Now that isn't so common in my world.
So copious amounts of ( ahem ) debauchery is uncommon where you come from as well?
( good to know. he pays half a mind to her casual conversation and the other half to asking the idle waitress for two glasses of water, which she agrees to bring with a lazy nod. well, at least that's one problem taken care of. a shame there's still so many left to grapple.
but first: the fact that so much of this is familiar to her is worth paying attention to, and once the waitress slinks away with his request, neuvillette turns his full attention back to layla. )
Do you frequently attend parties like this one?
( she does seem quite comfortable here, unlike him. )
( she remained at his side, watching as he ordered water on their behalf. there's an idle temptation in her to touch his shoulder, sweetly thank him for being so kind but she stopped herself the moment he asked that question.
it was then that she was reminded of who exactly she was-
and scolds from the past came ringing into her memory. with a soft sigh, she gestured towards one of the empty tables, hinting they should probably sit down while they wait for their water. )
Well considering it's part of my job, yes I have. It seems no one is aware of this, and frankly I'm not too bothered by it but...back home I'm a pretty popular celebrity you know? A singer.
( no one is aware of her status as a famed celebrity in the same way no one recognizes him as the chief justice of fontaine. the anonymity does not bother him - quite the opposite, in fact - but it does make him wonder as to who else might be mingling alongside them in this crowd. literal gods? princesses and kings?
but until he is introduced to one personally, he is content to focus on the actual company next to him. )
A singer?
( that does pique his interest, voice lilting upwards at the end. the mention reminds him of furina, who had been actress and songstress all wrapped into one - and quite renowned for her talents too. perhaps he should have noticed sooner, though he has never been good at reading people )
( and truly, if he wanted any kind of indicator as to how she viewed her profession, there it was. yes, there were truths and pains in the lyrics she wrote, but these days the person she sang for-
was no longer someone she was truly in love with or motivated to work for. he had broken her heart yet again with his cruelty and coldness. so it was most likely that the woman he knew was probably more passionate for her work. reira was....extremely talented but lacked that passion. )
I get mostly pushed into writing stupid love songs and stuff like that, but I've never been a fan. I want to write about cooler things like world peace, not that I know enough about it, but you know? Right?
( as they sat down at the table and the waitress was in sight, she kept her focus on neuvillette, sparkles seeming to glow around her face. it was clear they were two very different people. her introspection was reserved for different things, far more emotional things. )
( does he know? truthfully he knows so little when it comes to the sorts of human emotion and desires that are typically funneled into music and song. love is certainly of the most common themes he's heard, although world peace....?
his brow furrows as he considers this. )
World peace certainly is a most important subject. Most nations do seek to strive towards peacetime if possible.
( a very serious answer for a very serious man. it makes him seem even more out of place in this ballroom full of revelry and debauchery. but his expression lightens a little, voice turning questioning as he asks: )
But now that you are here, temporarily away from the confines of your musical contract, could you not write and sing about the topics of your choosing here?
( well that was a surprising response to her idle conversation. she hadn’t quite put that much thought or depth into her own answer, simply parroting a thought she always held. others in her life would just tell her to suck it up, it was her job, etc. and judge her for being so casual about the whole thing.
for as cold and calculating as he was, he gave a rather thoughtful answer. enough to stump her into silence and actually think about what he was saying with a clear and focused mind.
as the waitress came back around with their water, and reira took it into her hands, she looked down at it briefly before speaking up. )
I should do that….but I also don’t know much about this place at all. For all I know it could just endless partying all day…leaving little room for me to be alone.
( without the financial pressure of having to succeeded she could also just write whenever. )
( for a moment, he is reminded of furina, the swap between playful and pensive both common and abrupt in her day-to-day life. the ability to put on a mask and then take it off, a key trait for any performer.
it prompts from him a small surge of protectiveness, a desire to see that this young woman does not suffer too much while she is a guest of the resort. though she seems to be doing alright so far, there's no telling what might happen in the future the longer they stay here.
he accepts the water brought by their waitress, and takes a slow sip as he waits and listens. her fears are certainly valid, and there's little he can say or do to assuage those fears. )
Surely they would not force us to sit through droll parties the entire time. ( he sounds offended by the very idea, a deep frown cutting across his face. ) If they truly wish for us to thrive and participate in that game of theirs, then some peace and privacy should be the least they can afford us.
( peace and privacy to do as they like, whether that be rest or think up personalized song lyrics. )
( it took her some time to mull over his words, sipping from her own water as slow as possible. every movement calculated to avoid any bad appearances, a habit picked up from years of being in the spotlight. it was almost a part of her really, to look perfect. yet as he came to that hopeful suggestion, even she started to look a bit nervous.
really, she should have done more investigating before diving into the pleasures of this place. she was just glad she didn’t know anyone here and things had been seemingly fun.
it seemed she would need a new distraction from her current distraction- the fear of the unknown that came with this place. )
I suppose you’re right…maybe the more we participate and behave, the better things will turn out for us.
( she was just being hopeful- and maybe trying to justify her own behaviors. )
Yes, I arrived just recently, though I was not alone when I first woke up.
( in the backseat of a 'car' with an unfamiliar but polite young man. not the usual way he greets his early mornings, but he'd come out of the whole experience unscathed and judging from his even tone of voice, the incident hadn't seemed to ruffle him much. )
I have since met up with a few whose names I recognize; those from my 'world', so to speak. Though I am told that is not always the norm for those who arrive here.
( maybe that's what prompts him to make his next offer, the knowledge that he at least has acquaintances here he can rely on while she might not. )
Perhaps it is presumptuous of me to offer ( especially when they're complete strangers ) but if there is anything I can do to put you more at ease then, within reason, I would be happy to offer my aid.
( although he has so little to offer here - no power, no wealth, no experience - that perhaps making the offer in the first place is entirely moot. )
( well now things were sort of starting to make sense to her- but not quite yet. she wasn’t sure how to ask further about that so she’ll leave that question lingering in the air for now. if he wanted to elaborate further on that, but for now she’s more distracted by his kind offer. )
Oh…right, thank you.
(’within reason’. that certainly didn’t escape her, but instead of offering anything in return [as she herself had nothing to give], she decided to start off by asking him for a simple favor. )
I suppose if you run into anyone named ‘Takumi Ichinose’, will you let me know? I’m….trying to avoid them if they happen to be here.
( will she elaborate? probably, so it’s better for him not ask unless he wants an endless rant about how he ruined her life. )
( he murmurs the name to himself, tasting the foreign syllables on his tongue. the sounds are similar to those used in the inazuman language, though given the vast discrepnancies between people brought here to this place, it would not be safe to assume that they are entirely the same. )
Very well. ( a brief nod of agreement. ) I will keep an ear out for this person and inform you should I happen to hear of them.
( although..... )
Might you also be able to provide a description of their appearance? I've noticed not all meetings here necessarily end in a formal introduction.
( he can't very well ID the person if he has no idea what they look like. )
unfortunately for them both his appearance was shared by at least two other similar looking men around here. she'll make it clear to him how he is as well, almost as if to speak down on him and proving she hated this man.
or at least was starting to hate him. )
Long black hair, almost six feet tall, usually sports a stupid pair of trendy sunglasses and smokes. He also plays the bass, and women seem to flock to him for some reason.
( as she went on, her words sounded even more and more bitter. however it didn't take her long to feel embarrassed about the whole thing before aptly switching the topic back onto the man before her. )
A-Ah of course if you need a favor, I'll try my best. After all, we both have a love of water it seems! We should stick together sometimes?
( it's not difficult to hear the way her voice sours, vinegar seeping into an otherwise sweet tone, even for someone as emotionally inept as him. he can only surmise that he's stepped into the middle of some sort of lover's quarrel. even so, it's nothing worse than any of the heated arguments he's witnessed on the court floor, and he makes note of the description she provides, tucking all those words away to memory. )
Noted. If I see anyone matching the provided description, I will be sure to let you know.
( after asking their name, of course. tall with long black hair are common enough descriptors, after all, and he himself has met a few people matching that same description already.
as for her other offer.....he's caught off-guard, eyes widening briefly, a small exhale of surprise filling the air between them. )
Ah, I would not wish to impose. You must have many other things to worry about. ( such as this takumi of hers. ) But I would be more than happy spend time with you whenever you would like.
( it was a far too complex relationship she had with this man who she wasn't even dating, but she absolutely did not want to run into him here even if others seemed joyous of finding people they recognized.
even that much she could understand, but her fear of being alone in a strange place hadn't gotten to her yet. especially when neuvillette was offering to keep her company-
something she would take advantage of eventually. )
Ah I suppose I do...
( for now though, she would rise up from her table and polish off whatever water remained in her glass. as interesting as this man was, the call to explore the rest of the hotel was getting to her. especially now that she wanted to keep an eye out for takumi. )
Well I won't impose on you further, thank you for helping me to find water. I think I'm going to take some time to explore the hotel further and see what exactly awaits us here.
( he opens his mouth to protest - he doesn't find her an imposition at all, despite what his own words might say about him - but she's already standing, her empty glass being set back on the table with a light clink. if exploration is what she wishes, then he will not stop her. )
Very well. Please take care, Miss Layla.
( all things considered, he should probably do the same, and as she departs, he rises from his own seat to venture out on his own. )
