ANY CAR IN A STORM
PHOENIX CASINO HALL
WELCOME TO THE NEXT 168 HOURS
Phoenix Casino is a-flutter with activity and packed to the beak with guests. As a famously ever-changing space, the staff would be remiss if they didn't deck the crown jewel of the Golden Peacock out. The casino glitters from top to bottom, shining brighter than diamonds, rubies, sapphires, opals! Party-goers are shiny and glamorous with picture perfect makeup, fluttering gowns, and sharp suits. Card tables are packed and the slot machines are a-ringing as guests play, play, play! Prizes, luxury, booze, attractive people, it's the place that everyone wants to be at.
Those people being dragged inside by some invisible force...? Silly, they were so excited to come that their bodies moved before they realized what was happening. Those are struggles of joy and definitely not the casino's infamous ghost hands dragging unwilling guests to the party at the behest of the house. Look, they're literally hurling their bodies at the card tables with unrestrained glee!
All clocks indicating day hours and night hours have been removed from the casino. Once a guest has entered, their Watch will jam, making it impossible to keep track of the time. You don't need to worry about that tonight.

▶ All TDMs are game canon. This TDM acts as the game's January event.
▶ Current characters may top level on the TDM. Any current characters posting to the TDM should note they are current in their subject header.
▶ The top level directory is for new characters only. We want to make sure new characters are prioritized and receive attention! If you would be interested in a game invitation, you can note that in your comment header. This month we also have an ongoing ATP / EMP where players can connect. Please feel free to utilize this for all of your peafowl needs!
▶ If you aren't satisfied with these prompts, please feel free to check out our LOCATIONS to explore more of the resort!
▶ Smut threads that take place on this TDM can be used for rewards. If both parties in the smut thread join the game, you may retroactively apply the character's initial card values to your 52 bank. If one character does not join the game the thread will not be applicable toward rewards (as that character would not have a card value). The character that does join would still receive a small payout for the encounter. Hopefully it was a fun thread regardless!

[ WEI WUXIAN HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE MEANS. Cat-xiansheng is actually a boy, a teenage boy, and Wei Wuxian is not sure if that's better or worse. But it is what it is!
So, he sits there, listens to the boy and... frowns. ]
What's a car?
[ FINALLY. HE HAS ASKED WHAT A CAR IS IN A THREAD. HE WILL LEARN THE TRUTH. ]
[that gives Akira pause (and not the fact that he can't figure out how this machine works, no sir!!). with a heavy sigh, he straightens again, leaning his back against the driver's seat as he tilts his head to regard Wei Wuxian once again]
It's like. . . a carriage without horses? We're in one right now.
[gestures to their surroundings]
I can pick locks and pockets with ease, but hotwiring a car is a skill I never learned.
[ A CARRIAGE WITHOUT HORSES.......... Okay, actually, that makes perfect sense. Wei Wuxian nods and feels like he Gets it a little more, even if he still doesn't know why they're in said car. But that might be beyond what this cat knows as well. ]
Okay. Well, now I have even more questions but I think they're outside your remit.
[ Hmm. He'll move closer, leaning between the front and passenger seat, elbows on each as he watches Akira trying to hotwire this car. It looks... technical? And confusing. Goes right over his head, yep. ]
This question though, you should be able to answer. What is "hotwiring"? I don't see any fire.
[to be fair, Cat also doesn't know why they're in the car. it's fine. he seems remarkably calm for a guy who doesn't know why he is here, though. and he doesn't seem to mind that a stranger is watching him work]
It's a term for starting the car's ignition without its keys.
[a beat. and then, a bit more cheekily]
In simpler terms. . . it's what someone does if they want to steal it.
[ He sure is calm, for a teenager. Wei Wuxian is almost certain if this was his nephew, Jin Ling, someone would have been stabbed by now. Probably Wei Wuxian himself. Again. Jin Ling really needs to stop stabbing him, honestly. But he'll continue lingering there, watching patiently and he doesn't even look perturbed when Akira says that last bit. ]
Alright. So, you're stealing the car. What's your plan after you steal it?
[ He wonders if it's possible to steal something you're already in. Maybe? He doesn't know. He probably should try and find a way out of this car to do something, anything else but Akira is much too amusing to watch. ]
[he has only been awake for five minutes, give him a break!! . . . not that he is ever going to get this thing going, anyway. the spirit is willing but Morgana's thief lessons lacked in this area. . .]
[with a grunt, Akira sits up straight again to peer out the car window, hands pressed against the glass. one fuzzy cat ear flops over]
I just wanted to prove I could do it in the first place. . .
[ Morgana does not need to hotwire a car because he can just be a car instead. So sad.
At the comment that Akira just wanted to prove himself, Wei Wuxian gives an amused expression. He sounds so much like his juniors that it's kind of endearing. Aw, kid. ]
Definitely strange. Have you ever been summoned like this before?
[ Wei Wuxian has been resurrected from the dead but he's not sure if that counts. ]
[if only Akira could also turn into a catbus. . .]
[there's a pause as Akira considers how to answer that questions, his natural instincts to play things close to his chest almost taking over. but if this is a dream, then what does it matter??]
[he gives a tiny shrug and slumps into the driver's seat, hands linked behind his head as he lounges. he has given up on hotwiring this sexy piece of equipment]
Kind of. . . it wasn't exactly the same, though.
[stumbling accidentally into the Metaverse had been a bit different than waking up in a fancy car with no memory of how he got here. dreams, amirite?]
[ Eventually, Wei Wuxian will realize that Akira thinks this whole thing is a dream and he will pop that bubble. But for now, he's just rolling with it just to see what happens. As Akira slumps, Wei Wuxian shifts to lean against the passenger seat and face him more, amused by the whole thing. ]
Oh? So, you were summoned but not? Or you remember how you were summoned instead?
And that, that sure is an explanation. Surprise castle. What does he mean, surprise castle? Was he summoned to a castle? That must be what he means, heading one way, ending up somewhere else. What a pain. ]
But you left the castle, clearly, since you're here.
[ Well, that sounds like an adventure. Maybe that's why they're stuck here, because they're two troublemakers who can't let sleeping dogs lie. That's a thought.
Still, he tries to connect it to their current situation, giving a hum. ]
Alright, so you were transported to a castle once. I have a similar experience. [ Does he tell the teenager he was brought back from the dead? ... Hm, not yet. ] So, maybe that's the commonality here. And why we're here in the first place.
[. . . oh. that's a thought. Akira hadn't considered that he and Wei Wuxian were here because they had something in common. he thought it was just a whim of the universe. A WHIM OF HIS SUBCONSCIOUS!! he gives a considering pause, before turning in his seat to face his companion a bit more, arm resting against the center console]
So you're saying. . . we're trapped in a car together because we've both been randomly transported to a castle before?
[ Randomly transported to a castle — was Mo Manor a castle? No, but it was a manor. So. Maybe that counts too.
Either way, Akira is making leaps that Wei Wuxian can't explain but he's going to... roll with the logic anyway because it's the closest thing to an answer either of them have. Sure, why wouldn't that be the reason they're here? ]
It could be a castle. We'd have to leave the car to find out.
[it's a stupid leap in logic. don't pay attention to him. but Akira does give a firm nod at the suggestion, shifting around in his seat so he can reach for the door handle--]
[ Unfortunately, Wei Wuxian does not know the sound a car makes when a lock engages. He doesn't know what's wrong! So when Akira says hey, he just replies with — ]
[ ... No, he does not like that. There's a narrow eyed look at the door that Akira was just tugging against and he'll look around before trying the handle on the door next to him as well. It won't budge. He doesn't know what child safety locks are though so he doesn't try those either. ]
There has to be a way out. There has to? I'm not staying here.
[Akira does know what a child lock is, but they seem to be just as engaged as the other ones, so no dice. and despite his playful jibe, he is absolutely shifting to the front passenger seat to try that handle next. he actually does not want to become a car hobo himself, thank u very much!!]
. . . on second thought, this place is way too cramped for that.
[ There's a face there, at the mention of being a car hobo. He doesn't have the heart to tell Akira that he's already a hobo, all he has to his name is a flute and a donkey. But that's fine, it's fine.
He watches as the kid fusses with the doors and considers his options. Maybe he does have to call a ghost. ]

Huh. I don't know.
[he has not thought that far ahead!!]
Take it out for a spin?
[gasp. since this is his dream, what if. . . the roads turned into BARIO KART ROADS???]
no subject
But now this cat has proven he's not thinking that far ahead and Wei Wuxian is slightly disappointed. A little chiding, he says wryly — ]
Cat-xiansheng. If you don't know what's outside the car, what's the point of this hotwiring in the first place? We're clearly not outside.
[ The windows make it clear they're in a building. In a car in a building, somewhere. He does not know what a parking garage is. ]

A little bit of both.
[hn. . . how to explain. . .?]
I stumbled into another world alongside my best friend on accident. We were just trying to get to school, and then suddenly— bam.
[claps his hands together for emphasis]
Surprise castle.

Mmmyep. We managed to escape with our heads in tact.
