ANY CAR IN A STORM
PHOENIX CASINO HALL
WELCOME TO THE NEXT 168 HOURS
Phoenix Casino is a-flutter with activity and packed to the beak with guests. As a famously ever-changing space, the staff would be remiss if they didn't deck the crown jewel of the Golden Peacock out. The casino glitters from top to bottom, shining brighter than diamonds, rubies, sapphires, opals! Party-goers are shiny and glamorous with picture perfect makeup, fluttering gowns, and sharp suits. Card tables are packed and the slot machines are a-ringing as guests play, play, play! Prizes, luxury, booze, attractive people, it's the place that everyone wants to be at.
Those people being dragged inside by some invisible force...? Silly, they were so excited to come that their bodies moved before they realized what was happening. Those are struggles of joy and definitely not the casino's infamous ghost hands dragging unwilling guests to the party at the behest of the house. Look, they're literally hurling their bodies at the card tables with unrestrained glee!
All clocks indicating day hours and night hours have been removed from the casino. Once a guest has entered, their Watch will jam, making it impossible to keep track of the time. You don't need to worry about that tonight.

▶ Smut threads that take place on this TDM can be used for rewards. If both parties in the smut thread join the game, you may retroactively apply the character's initial card values to your 52 bank. If one character does not join the game the thread will not be applicable toward rewards (as that character would not have a card value). The character that does join would still receive a small payout for the encounter. Hopefully it was a fun thread regardless!

[ Okay, it's a simple enough game with a simple enough premise. Draw a card, ask the question, answer the question. Anyone who doesn't answer loses chips. He doesn't have many chips in the first place, just having arrived, but it'd be nice to win some.
Can he win some here? ]
Lucky, lucky me.
[ He'll pluck a card, feather light, from somewhere near the top but not at the top because he's still trying to stick to the spirit of the game.
He looks at the card and reads the question — ]
Have you ever betrayed someone for love?
[ ... Hm. Okay. A slight pause and Wei Wuxian gives his answer. ]
[ Troy leans against his chair, continuing to watch Wei and notices anything about him. That feather light touch and willingness to pick near the middle, to that admission of betrayal without skipping a beat. There's a small tilt of his head at that answer, curiosity starting to pique. He nods and feels his eyes look down for a moment before returning to meet Wei's features. ]
No. I don't think I can do something like that.
[ He shrugs, admitting to his side but also not judging Wei ]
I only ever loved one person, and betraying them might as well be the only impossible thing I can't do.
[ Troy raises his card between his fingers and looks at Wei's reaction. Is he ready to move on to a different question or want to dig a little more? Troy is at ease, either way. ]
[ Wei Wuxian could explain — could say he had to betray his brother to save his life, had to hide secrets from him so he could move on and become strong. He could admit he tricked him, did things without his consent, betrayed his trust all to make sure he was alive and whole afterwards. But it's a long story and Wei Wuxian isn't sure he wants to get into it, not with a stranger.
So, he just keeps that smile on his face, looking as easy going as always and nods in response to Troy's comment. ]
It's good to know your limits, what you can do, what you can't. It makes it easier to live with a clean conscience.
[ And keeping that to himself is something Troy would understand. He may be an open book now, but he knows the weight of such subjects deserve time. Maybe after dinner or two, he jokes to himself. He nods, ]
That it is.
[ He points in agreement with the same hand holding his card, then flips said card to look at the question with a hum. ]
Well mine pales in comparison to yours, but "What memory do you revisit often?"
[ Oh, that's a sweet card. Well, then again, he has a few memories he revisits often but doesn't exactly want to revisit. So, maybe not so sweet. He gives a hum as he considers it, mind immediately veering in the direction of the battle of Nightless City and his death. He replays it a lot in his mind. ]
Still the potential for an upsetting answer, admittedly. [ Said with a smile, with amusement. ] But what's your answer, then? I'll share mine as well, just give me a moment to think of it.
[ He wonders if the game still registers it if he tells a memory that isn't the strongest one he revisits, just one of many he revisits. He hopes it does. ]
The very first moment I acquired land by the beach.
[ Troy smiles wistfully, eyes drifting up slightly to remember the moment vividly in his mind. ]
Moved to a new place to start fresh, and managed to scrounge up enough money to buy some land at a beach that reminds me a lot of my childhood country. It's where I built my house. The sunsets there are some of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
[ His voice is steady, with a tinge of nostalgia mixed in with the homesickness amid the soft spoken words. ]
You'd probably like it. I mean, if you can handle humidity. It is a tropical place by the ocean.
[ The humidity...! His hair...! Okay, maybe he doesn't want to visit. But he continues to grin bright, looking curious when Troy makes that last comment. Huh! ]
Reports of strange phenomena is really concentrated over in that area. People seeing monsters, ghosts, strange lights in the sky... That kind of thing.
[ He continues to gauge Wei's reaction. His head tilts slightly, eyes focused on the other man to see how much he's willing to hear and say ]
It's interesting. The place has a lot of natural wonders; like cave systems, heavily forested mountains, vast network of rivers. Those things inspire stories like that. Didn't think it's all strange, really. If you ask me, I'm the weirdest guy there.
[ He laughs, hiding the truth with some humor. Because it's also true, being the only one of divinity in that area, in a way keeping the supernatural weirdness at bay just by being there. ]
[ Wei Wuxian doesn't look disinterested in what Troy is saying, nor does he look surprised. Just curious, infinitely curious. He's almost forgotten the game now, more interested in Troy's story than anything else.
... Ah, he still has to answer the question too, doesn't he? Well, they'll get there when they get there. ]
But are the monsters, ghosts, and strange lights real? Or are they just stories?
[ Because they're real where he comes from! ]
— Also, you don't seem too weird to me but we have only just met.
When you're the only man surrounded by spiritually charged locations, monsters, ghosts - you're gonna be the weird one in that situation.
[ He laughs heartily, poking fun of himself a little. Taking a moment before he settles down and nods ]
But those stories are real, yeah. They live in that area and I'm just their guest, in a sense. As long as I take care of the land and it's creatures, I'm on their good side.
[ He admits, though he's shifted the perspective a little. It's those creatures who are afraid of him and trying to be on his good side. He doesn't want to admit that, because that's not the way he wants to be seen anymore. ]
[ What's funny is if Wei Wuxian was a little more familiar with Troy's history and abilities, he'd probably see similarities there. Wei Wuxian is feared for his abilities, commands ghosts and the undead with ease, tries not to be the most fearsome thing in the room but ends up being so anyway.
But not here! Here, he has a blank slate. No one has to know about his history here, no one has to be afraid. ]
That's good of you, being respectful of the dead and other creatures around.
[ Wei Wuxian is not respectful of the dead, at all. They are a tool to be used and that's it. ]
house of cards!

Yep. You?

I've never been anywhere tropical before, but it sounds really nice. Do you still live there? I mean, when you're not here.
[ Since they're all kind of stuck here instead. ]
no subject
[ He laughs, bringing his expression back to a more easy-going one ]
And yeah, I still do. I like it there, it's peaceful, even with a lot of the supernatural weirdness going on there.
no subject
"Supernatural weirdness"?
[ Ooh, tell him more! ]
