PARKING GARAGE
ANY CAR IN A STORM
PHOENIX CASINO HALL
WELCOME TO THE NEXT 168 HOURS
Phoenix Casino is a-flutter with activity and packed to the beak with guests. As a famously ever-changing space, the staff would be remiss if they didn't deck the crown jewel of the Golden Peacock out. The casino glitters from top to bottom, shining brighter than diamonds, rubies, sapphires, opals! Party-goers are shiny and glamorous with picture perfect makeup, fluttering gowns, and sharp suits. Card tables are packed and the slot machines are a-ringing as guests play, play, play! Prizes, luxury, booze, attractive people, it's the place that everyone wants to be at.
Those people being dragged inside by some invisible force...? Silly, they were so excited to come that their bodies moved before they realized what was happening. Those are struggles of joy and definitely not the casino's infamous ghost hands dragging unwilling guests to the party at the behest of the house. Look, they're literally hurling their bodies at the card tables with unrestrained glee!
All clocks indicating day hours and night hours have been removed from the casino. Once a guest has entered, their Watch will jam, making it impossible to keep track of the time. You don't need to worry about that tonight.

[ You know what? Wei Wuxian is even going to be a gentleman and not call attention to the fact that Fidelio is kind of in a compromising position here. He just lets Fidelio do the squirming thing, staying in his place until the last bit of him is out of Wei Wuxian's lap and then he shifts to adjust, sitting up instead of laying sprawled out on the seat. ]
I was asleep.
[ So, nope, he didn't try anything. Windows though, he glances at the shiny surfaces surrounding them and considers. It looks... expensive and definitely gives him hesitation. He doesn't have much experience with glass windows so he wouldn't know it as something to break, but he can put together the context clues here. ]
I think you're right, it must be a window. It looks like something we might be able to break.
[ bless him for that, because boy does he know. first thing he does is pull down on that robe and readjust how he had it belted, since loosened during all his rumbling around. not that he's overly concerned with modesty at a time like this, but—come on, man. ]
Not bare-handed, unless you're gonna say you're that strong. You don't look it, no offense. I already tried banging on it a little.
[ there's a special sort of lack of apology in his voice at that "no offense," like he's used to being a smartass all the time and maybe half of what he says "no offense" to is actually offensive, but in this case he's definitely not trying to get on Wei Wuxian's nerves. not when they're stuck in here with no clothes and no idea what's going on. a tilt of his head toward the back he just crawled through from, and Fidelio finishes fiddling with his robe. ]
There's bottles 'n whatnot back there. Could work, maybe. Or the trays? If that glass's as thick as a runner's, though, we got problems.
[ Just two naked guys in the back of a limo!! Well, nearly naked. But these robes ain't hiding much. Wei Wuxian is actually aching to get some pants on himself but if the problem is getting out of this... thing... that they're in, then that needs to be addressed first.
At the no offense, Wei Wuxian looks a little wry. Fidelio isn't wrong, of course, but Wei Wuxian knows he could break it if he had his flute. He does not have chenqing though and so, he's stuck with this flimsy little body of his. Ugh. What a pain in the ass.
He looks in the direction of the bar and for a moment, wonders if that's alcohol and if he can drink it. Now is not the time to crack open a drink though so he shakes the thought from his mind and moves over in the small space, closer to the bottles. He picks one up, assessing the heft of a champagne bottle curiously. Then he lifts a hand to rap on the window closest to him with his knuckles, assessing the thickness.
He also doesn't know what Fidelio means by runner but he's not going to ask just yet. ]
I think the bottle will shatter before the window does.
[ Alright. Okay. Doors are not opening. Windows are closed. If only they would open! If only he knew there was a button to press to open it! ]
There... has to be a way out. Why would we wake up in this box if there wasn't a way to leave it?
[ sound logic. Fidelio turns his attention to the food trays, mostly piled with snacks he's never seen the like of (Golden Peacock brand clif bars and la croix, jordan almonds, disgusting, but also another with junk food; the cheetos smell especially appetizing). he's a little remiss to throw it all on the floor if it's edible, but this kind of isn't the time to put food over his potential safety. ]
Could be a trap. Nicest prison I've ever seen, like, but I... uh. Don't got an answer for why we don't get to have clothes.
[ has it occurred to him that the other captive in here could be behind it, or know things he doesn't? yeah, but their circumstances seem pretty much the same, so that's probably not it. if it turns out Wei Wuxian can't be trusted, well... he'll handle it.
in the meantime, he settles for moving all the snacks from one tray to another and picking up the empty one. it's less hefty than it looked, and a few test wobbles in his hands don't seem to inspire much confidence. ]
Question is, you do anything incriminating lately? Somethin' that'd get you locked up?
[ The tray of food gets a curious eye from Wei Wuxian because, well, it's all stuff he's never heard of. In things he's never seen before. What is that shiny piece of cloth holding said cheetos? It is cloth, right? Hmm, tempted to touch it and figure it out. Oh wait, don't get distracted. They're trying to break a window here. ]
Torture?
[ That could be why there's no clothes. Just the embarrassment and humiliation of being naked with a stranger. That could be it. He shrugs though, he's not that concerned about being naked with a stranger. He's had communal baths plenty of times.
The wobbles are... not inspiring and Wei Wuxian considers their options. Seriously, this is like a really bad puzzle. They've got to escape this thing somehow.
The question comes though and Wei Wuxian's eyes widen and he tilts his head from one side to the other, ehhhing a little. ]
Depends on who you ask. I personally don't think I've done anything wrong.
[ Not an answer that inspires confidence, Wei Wuxian. ]
[ it sure doesn't. but Fidelio snorts out a flat little laugh and seems to appreciate the answer anyway. ]
Yeah, alright. So you definitely did something to deserve it, got it.
[ as for himself? well... it's complicated sort of maybe kinda. at any rate, he doesn't offer the information up immediately. instead, he tilts the tray in his hands at an angle, leveraging the corner of the tray against the nearest car window, and gives it a few hard smacks. he certainly doesn't look "that strong" either, but that's probably not the reason the glass doesn't so much as crack. if anything is familiar to him at all, it's that this glass is just like that of a gauntlet runner—thick and tempered, not easy to break.
in the end, all he has to show for the effort is a dented tray. Fidelio swears under his breath and sets it aside, tail swishing with annoyance. truly an evil mastermind is at work, putting two guys who have no idea what a car is inside of a vehicle with child safety locks. ]
[ The smile on Wei Wuxian's face doesn't drop, even when Fidelio replies with that. Yeah, fair enough, he thinks. He knows the other clans have wanted him trussed up and thrown in the dungeons many times over but he's too slippery to let them take him. Plus, they couldn't keep him if they tried, not with his skills — Ah!
He's been so dumb, sitting here and just waiting to figure out how to brute force the way out of here. It would be much easier to call forth something to let them out instead. On one hand, he's not sure how Fidelio is going to react to such a thing but on the other, it's not like Wei Wuxian hides his skills ever. He can already sense the yin energy lingering in this... place? And knows that if he called something to come help them, it would come.
So, as Fidelio's plan with the tray fails and he looks a little defeated, Wei Wuxian looks sympathetic. He really has been trying his best here and all Wei Wuxian has been doing is sitting here, doing nothing. So, when he asks after Wei Wuxian's ideas, Wei Wuxian nods and gives a wry grin. ]
I do, but don't be scared, alright?
[ And with that, he whistles, imbuing his whistle with the command of let us out. He's not sure what will be called, but he knows something will and so, he waits.
Eventually, an oddly oppressive feeling lingers in the air and Wei Wuxian looks around curiously, trying to see where the energy is coming from. A ghostly hand reaches through the window next to them, pulling open the child safety lock and then, very simply, opens the door. It swings open as if it was meant to do it the whole time and gives them the exit to the parking garage.
The ghost then dissipates just as Wei Wuxian lets out a pleased — ]
[ of all the things he thought might happen, it definitely wasn't any of that. the whistle is one thing, but the ghost—it makes his fur stand on end and goosebumps break out on his skin, threatened in a way he's only ever felt once or twice before. it's kind of a surprise to him that nothing dangerous ends up happening; just an open door and a response from Wei Wuxian like it's exactly what he intended on happening.
Del's mouth hangs open, at a loss for words. or rather, struggling with which ones to say. a lot of "what the hell was that," for one thing, but when all is said and done, there's only one thought that ends up rising above the others and making it out of his mouth. the dim shock fades from his expression, which falls flat with a different sort of disbelief. ]
Why didn't you just say you could do that in the first place?!
[ He watches Fidelio's shocked expression with mild curiosity, wondering where he's going to land. Disgust, disbelief, or the very rare, delight. He remembers his juniors, the first time he used demonic cultivation in front of them — they'd heard it was bad, but seeing it in action was a very different thing and left them wildly impressed and covetous. But they would never turn to it, having had the dangers of it beat into them from a young age.
When Fidelio finally exclaims his point, Wei Wuxian does have the grace to look a bit sheepish though. He doesn't have a good answer, more that he just didn't think they needed it until they expended all their options. Whoops! ]
It's not usually the first thing I do when I'm in trouble. More of a back-up plan, you know?
[ He tries to look charming, but he doubts it's going to work on Fidelio. Just a feeling he gets. ]
But we're free now! Are you okay?
[ Just checking in. He could tell how the ghost spooked Fidelio a bit but they're also strangers, so there's no reason for him to admit it to Wei Wuxian. Still, Wei Wuxian isn't too callous to ignore it. ]
