PHOENIX CASINO HALL
WELCOME TO THE NEXT 168 HOURS
Phoenix Casino is a-flutter with activity and packed to the beak with guests. As a famously ever-changing space, the staff would be remiss if they didn't deck the crown jewel of the Golden Peacock out. The casino glitters from top to bottom, shining brighter than diamonds, rubies, sapphires, opals! Party-goers are shiny and glamorous with picture perfect makeup, fluttering gowns, and sharp suits. Card tables are packed and the slot machines are a-ringing as guests play, play, play! Prizes, luxury, booze, attractive people, it's the place that everyone wants to be at.
Those people being dragged inside by some invisible force...? Silly, they were so excited to come that their bodies moved before they realized what was happening. Those are struggles of joy and definitely not the casino's infamous ghost hands dragging unwilling guests to the party at the behest of the house. Look, they're literally hurling their bodies at the card tables with unrestrained glee!
All clocks indicating day hours and night hours have been removed from the casino. Once a guest has entered, their Watch will jam, making it impossible to keep track of the time. You don't need to worry about that tonight.

[ Granted, even he weren't deprived of his eyesight, Jiaoqiu still wouldn't have seen this coming. The awakening itself might not be rude, but the immediate aftermath is a little more so, unfamiliar sounds and scents reaching his ears and nose, fine leather pressed against his cheek, and a soft robe wrapped around his body. He's in some sort of seat, but his senses are sharp enough to tell him this is no ordinary starskiff. Nothing around him carries the familiar scents of the Yaoqing except for his own skin.
At least the vessel he's seated in isn't moving...and at least he isn't alone, his ears swiveling towards the sound of someone moving in the seat next to him. Rousing of their own accord, it seems, and likely not responsible for him being here. Does that make him feel better...or worse?
Reaching out his hands carefully, his palms smooth over — oh. A wheel. Of course. ]
Oh...now, this is terribly unfortunate. If I'm set to our be our pilot, our flight together will be, regrettably, short-lived. I hope you have your affairs in order.
[ Sometimes you just. Give up trying to make sense of things and cope with humor instead. Even if he's the only one who might find it funny... ]
b. phoenix casino: game rooms
[ Maybe it's a bit reckless of him to attend the party without a second thought or word of protest, but where better to gather intel and information about the ins and outs of this resort than from such a gathering? Or perhaps this is the effect of the Merlin's Claw — or, rather, her absence. If the arbiter-general isn't here to assert herself into the situation, then it falls to him.
Though he probably won't go about things in...quite her same way. Rather, he easily finds some sumptuous clothing to wear, flattering yet familiar, his hair tied back with ribbon and gold ornaments. Some skills are easier than others to compensate for with his other senses, but he has done his own hair more than enough times to do it blind — literally. Once he looks the part, he spends some time at the party mingling and socializing, learning the lay of the land; reconnaissance, he might call it, but he's not too proud to admit to himself that he's enjoying the atmosphere, too.
Maybe he really did need this vacation...
Sooner or later, he makes his way to sex toy roulette, stepping up to the wheel and giving it a hearty spin, although he'll need the attendant nearby to read out his winnings for him: a regular spoon. ]
A little cruel, to gift me the spoon without the pot. [ this isn't a euphemism i swear ] Shall I spin again?
[ Alternatively, meet him across the table for some dirty dice, ears swiveling towards anyone approaching as he sips from his golden drink. ]
Interested in joining me for a game? I'd be honored by your company.
[ He doesn't bite — unless the dice call for it. ]
c. phoenix casino: high class oasis
[ Being a new wildcard, Jiaoqiu has no business visiting the High Class Oasis, but that's part of what makes it so alluring, isn't it? Not to mention he's caught wind of the fact that there's places to rest and relax within, and after several days, the party is wearing down even his resilience.
More than anything, though, he wants to try to sneak in just because he can. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? Hovering around the vicinity of the club's entrance, he links arms with anyone who happens to pass him by, lightly resting a hand on their forearm, his tail flickering behind him as he steers them to a standstill around the corner, out of sight from the Oasis' door. ]
Ah, I've been waiting for you. [ Literally whomst?? ] You could use a break as well, couldn't you, my friend?
[ It's one thing if he sneaks in alone. It's another if he sneaks in a complete stranger as well. ]
d. aftercare
[ Being both a long-lived species and a physician, Jiaoqiu has learned to deal with hangovers with ease, to the point where he is almost utterly unaffected. So when he wakes up in bed next to a stranger the morning following the lengthy party, likely rising before his partner, he gives the breakfast an appraising sniff before digging into the hangover kit. Bottles of pills, liquid, more toys and accessories — no, none of this will do.
He then leaves the suite, though not for good, instead returning a short while later with a satchel of ingredients and a kettle of hot water. Where did he get all that from? Don't worry about it. ]
Let's see...half a dozen hawthorn berries, a pinch of radish seeds — the peony isn't as dry as I'd like, but we'll make do. How's your head? Didn't eat anything yet, did you?
[ There's one upside to waking up in bed with a doctor. ]
e. wildcard + notes
[ Want to hit up Jiaoqiu with another prompt? The sky is the limit! 18+ for smut please, otherwise OTA! ]
[ this is what she gets for drinking like a sailor as per usual. but can anyone really blame her when the selection of liquor that was available at that part was nothing she's ever seen before? really, it's a good thing that she'd only gotten drunk without all the weird side-effects that this place apparently plays around with...
so when she finally rouses from her slumber with a migraine, it's to the scent of something hot, spicy, and fragrant. she blearily looks over to the man with... pink fox ears? they look so real for prosthetics, not gonna lie. ]
Um. Not yet. [ carefully, she pulls herself up in a sitting position, wincing at the migraine. ] What is this...?
[ Those very convincing fox ears twitch in her direction as she starts to stir, though otherwise, Jiaoqiu stays focused on pouring the kettle into two cups that he added his bespoke migraine cure to. Some ingredients aren't native to the Xianzhou, but given their taste, texture and scent, should serve a similar purpose.
Then again, they won't know for sure until it's in their bellies. Hopefully none of it is poisonous! But if it was, he'd be ill by now from his taste-testing, so...it's probably fine. ]
My own home-brewed cure for a hangover. The taste is a little [ read: VERY ] strong, but it'll clear your mind and senses and get you back on your feet far sooner than anything the resort gave out.
[ Setting the kettle aside, he perches at the edge of the bed to let the tea steep for a few moments. ]
So, bearing that in mind...will you drink a mysterious tea brewed by a complete stranger that woke up in bed next to you?
[ she watches him closely, from the way his ears twitch idly to how his hands expertly glide across the kettle as the tea steeps. the brew smells divine, if a little spicy, but there's no telling how spicy it is until she puts her tastebuds to the test eventually. fortunately, she is able to handle her spice -- for the most part.
she sits up straighter on the bed, hand coming up to comb through her massive mane of orange hair. ]
Well, that depends. If you have any ill intentions towards me, what would you even gain for poisoning me right here and now? I don't really have anything on me.
[ a noncommittal shrug. ]
Honestly, after everything I ate and drunk the nights prior, I'd rather take my chances with what you brewed up. Just saying.
[ One would think, being soulbonded to a kitsune, Sylvain would be more accustomed to foxes just popping up out of nowhere to latch onto him. But apparently they can still surprise him anyway, because his steps falter for a moment while he blinks wide amber eyes at the unfamiliar figure treating him like an old friend.
But this is a game he's played himself many a time, so the momentary falter is a short one before he's just going ahead with playing along, offering a playful smile to the fox, lips quirked in a crooked grin. ]
Did I keep you waiting? My apologies. I didn't realize. But a break to rest does sound rather nice right now. Shall we, darling?
[ He, at least, has complete permission to be here, so it's less sneaking for him and more... smuggling? ]
[ Game recognizes game, even if it's a game ill-advised to play in the first place. That's what makes it fun — even if there's a chance they might get caught, there's no harm in seeing how far they can go with this. Jiaoqiu may not realize he's snagged a high-ranking guest, but it's better that way. ]
I couldn't have said it better myself. Much as I enjoy the merriment, a bit of respite will energize and cleanse the soul.
[ With a familiar nod at this complete stranger, Jiaoqiu starts towards the club's door again, aiming for nonchalance and surefootedness. Of course he belongs somewhere like this. ]
And you? How have you found this marathon of festivities? You never were one to settle for a boredom.
[ Considering he's dressed to play the part especially well today, Sylvain slips into the role with ease alongside him. Nevermind that he does have permission to be here, he's more than prepared to throw his weight around if necessary. Even if he has to get creative about it. ]
Oh, you know me. [ he smirks, because this man certainly doesn't, but some things are easy enough to guess. ] Terrible things happen when I get bored. That's a fate that should be avoided at all costs. I do hope you're up to the challenge of fending them off.
[ At the presented question, Kleken's gaze falls down to the 'toy' in question. He'd assumed that the wheel had placed up some sort of placeholders for unique and fantastical 'toys' to be presented when he'd first seen the options but... no. No, that was in fact a normal spoon, and the sight of it tugs a smile to the corner of his lips. ]
[ The resort did continue to surprise him at times. ]
You may as well, though I suspect you won't be leaving without your well-rewarded spoon either way.
[ Things were never as simple as rejecting a 'gift' from the resort, after all. ]
It'd be a shame to leave such a piece of fine silver behind. No doubt I'll find a use for it, though for the time being...
[ Just stow it away in his sash and hide his prize? No, instead he pauses for a moment before spinning the wheel again, reaching back to his intricate braids and tucking the spoon alongside the pins that hold hair back.
What a fashion icon. Turning to give his companion a nod, Jiaoqiu steps back up to the wheel and throws another spin, and this time, it lands on a 2. Chocolate syrup! The attendant announces his prize, before another moves forward to hand over to him. ]
...I have to admit, I had slightly different expectations from the so-named "sex toy roulette". Maybe you'd like to give it a try?
[ Not that he COULDN'T use the chocolate syrup for sex, but it's still not exactly what he had in mind. Was this all just a gimmick to get them through the door? ]
[ A fashion icon indeed, he won't be stopping these choices anytime soon. ]
[ Kleken had been looking for something to entertain himself with and weird sex toys was easily becoming the most immediate entertainment source. Granted, his own experience with sex toys was highly limited, but he did fail to see any sort of sexual appeal in chocolate syrup. ]
[ That may be in large part because chocolate syrup and seafood generally don't go together- ]
I wouldn't mind testing my luck. Perhaps something interesting to go with yours might be fun.
[ A tentacle reaches out from behind his back and up to spin the wheel, stretching out immediately to fetch the reward once the wheel is done rolling. ]
[ From the brief look of hesitation on Kleken's face, he has never seen a fleshlight in his life before and he has no idea where to start trying to comprehend the thing now being waggled about by a tentacle. ]
[Having bypassed every other individual at this party on his way out, at least to the fringes of the room in pursuit of privacy, Sunday... stops at the sound of a voice. He doesn't recognize it, but the man's features attract a second look, lingering on the vulpine characteristics with momentary question. Foxian?
... Well, it shouldn't surprise him, even if it is the first person he's come across who resembles a race he knows. What does it change? They are both guests here, and this man seems intent to play along. Exactly the opposite of his own motives.]
Did you choose my company at random? It can't really be so worthwhile if I'm a stranger.
[No, he isn't sitting down yet.]
That game is vulgar. [Looking at the word 'genitals' on the dice like....... wtf.] Even less of a reason to play it with just anyone.
[ Truthfully, this is the kind of reception that Jiaoqiu expected to be met with — or would expect, were he anywhere than a resort built on pleasure and indulgence. Like a thread drawn just out of reach, this stranger's reluctance only intrigues him further. If he isn't here to play the game, then what drew him here instead?
He offers a gentle chuckle that's both good-natured and genuine. He won't be offended if he's rejected, but he hasn't given up yet! ]
Ah, but you know what they say! A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet. [ Okay grandpa, that was pretty cringe. ] In any case, I might argue the game's vulgarity is what makes it best suited to play with a stranger. That way, you won't have to look a familiar face in the eye, in case you wind up...
[ Dropping his voice into a hushed tone, leaning forward conspiratorially towards Sunday: ]
anyway, jing yuan does not stir when jiaoqiu leaves the bed - odd, really, considering his militaristic reflexes - but not only had the party exhausted him, the familiar scent of someone he knew nearby was more than enough to settle the alarm bells going off behind closed eyelids.
so on he sleeps, until a gentle voice rouses him, and jing yuan's eyes flicker open. ]
Ah, mm.. [ using his knuckles to wipe the sleep from his eyes, jing yuan chuckles, the sound sleepy and rough. ] .. I did not, good doctor. How nice it is to meet you again, Jiaoqiu-xiansheng.
[ Of course, even with Jiaoqiu's keen sense of smell and hearing to help him navigate, without the use of his eyes, he could barely speculate about who it is that he was sharing a bed with this morning. He had only stopped to listen to his companion's breathing long enough to determine it wasn't one of his close comrades. There is a familiar scent, there, something reminiscent of his time on the Luofu...but far be it from him to rouse his companion just to satisfy his curiosity. There will be time for that when he returns.
By the time he's back, his bedmate still hasn't risen, which certainly reminds him of a certain someone's disposition, which also stands in stark contrast to his own arbiter-general. Even so, he's nonetheless surprised to hear the voice of the Divine Foresight, and he can't help a disbelieving little chuckle himself. Really, what are the odds?
Then again, perhaps he should get used to betting against the odds, given where they've found themselves. ]
Ah, general! You must forgive my informality. I hadn't realized who I had the privilege of waking up next to. I'd suggest my cure for a hangover may make up for it, if the taste weren't so...distinct.
[ There are few people who'd take her arm and even fewer who'd call her a friend, so Topaz's immediate reaction is to stiffen and try and pull away. What gives her pause is the possibility that her new companion is a Foxian, and more notably, one with vision difficulties.
Even though he doesn't have any trouble getting around, just in. She's no fan of the House's ranking system, so subverting the rules to give this guy a little break is fine by her. ]
[ That makes two of them, fortunately. Even if it weren't a diverting challenge to pass the time with, Jiaoqiu would be inclined to ignore the barriers between different ranks. That won't change, regardless of what he's assigned.
So yes, he wants to be a menace, but a menace for a good cause, at least?? ]
Not at all. Besides, your company is always worth the wait.
[ She's picked right up on what he's putting down — they're off to a good start! As he starts to steer them back towards the club door: ]
How have you found the festivities so far? Is the marathon of merriment to your liking?
[ Mercifully, shenanigans like this aren't too far out of place... otherwise, she might have been more startled at someone brazenly walking into where she was sleeping. Instead, she just blearily opens one eye, the blankets still pulled all the way up to her chin, silvery hair slightly tangled and messy from her dozing. Ugh... the party was fun, but she's certainly paying for it now — and much more than a normal person would. While it may seem she doesn't move because she's lazy (and that's part of it, definitely), the other part is that she simply can't, body overtaken by aches that leave her mostly immobile. ]
No, [ She answers croakily, both crimson eyes blinking open slowly. She makes absolutely no movement to sit up, though she does lift her head a bit from the pillow to get a better look at him — eyes darting to those ears. ] You're making tea?
[ She can smell the floral notes of peony and seeds, specially attuned to flowers as she is.
[ Even preoccupied as he is by his teamaking, his senses are always attuned to the wellbeing of those in his care, and while she's not a patient, so to speak, treating someone in need is just second nature. It's subtle, but his ears don't miss the way she doesn't move much at all as she speaks — is her head hurting just that badly? Or did she exhaust herself in some other way?
At least he stayed lucid enough during the party to know he isn't to blame for that. ]
I am. The smell isn't too disruptive, I hope. [ It's a concoction of subtle and strong scents, and though it's not unpleasant, it's certainly distinct. ] If you're seeking a cure for a hangover, I can promise it's worth a peculiar smell and taste, however.
[Well, whomst indeed? Of all the things Miko was expecting to happen on her way to a repeat stint in the ladies' lounge, being apprehended by a gentleman wasn't one of them. She pulls up short with the slightest snap of her heel, the plush fur(? is this cannibalism) of her stole brushing against his friendly tail. Her gaze appraises him, moving up and down to get a quick read that she's more than familiar with obtaining.
A drunk, fast-moving, or otherwise unobservant passerby would be pressed to notice the differences between them. Superficially, they could pass for relatives; it wouldn't seem strange that he grabbed her. There's nothing unusual to notice about this meeting.
(Of course, to her, Miko's sure they don't look very similar at all. They are far from comparable.)]
Oh, my! [she exclaims with that same tacet fabricated recognition.] Fancy meeting you here. I was just on my way to the women's retreat. Good thing you caught me before I got there.
[ His ears and nose are sharp enough to clock that his impromptu partner isn't an ordinary person herself, though for the moment, that may be all his senses can tell him. Getting to know her can wait until they're inside the Women's Parlor; for now, he'll just have to pretend like they're the most well-acquainted ladies in the casino.
Well, it wouldn't be the first time he's passed for a woman. Crossing an arm across his chest to obscure his total lack of cleavage, he holds a fan to obscure his lips, uttering a demure and gentle laugh. ]
Then fates are in our favor tonight, it seems. [ His natural tone of voice is soft, but he affects it to sound a few pitches higher. ] That's just where I was heading myself. I hear the tea is near ambrosial to those weary from merriment.
Let's be on our way, shall we? [ A girlish little titter. Is he overdoing it?? ]
[ When she spots Jiaoqiu loitering near the entrance of the High Class Oasis, the first thing Feixiao thinks is that her friend and aide has made a mistake. His ruined eyes, after all, won't see the signage declaring it a private location for upper ranks only. And where a mistake might not be a terrible thing back in places more civilized than this, she's heard from the little poking around she's done since waking up in that car that the punishments the House doles out to its fellows is far from pleasant.
(Or is that entirely too pleasant? She supposes that, like anything else, it's simply a matter of perspective, in the same way this accursed dress can be both beautiful and the most uncomfortable thing she's ever worn.)
At any rate, she's quick to make her way to his side. There's a vague thought that occurs to her, one that says he may—unlike her—possess a rank high enough for the place after all, but one, his demeanor even at a distance makes her doubt that, and two, she's already moving. And she's halfway reached out her arm in fact when his suddenly loops through hers, tugging her to the side and away from the sight of the door, and Feixiao sighs, because this foolish, foolish man— ]
Doc Jiao, [ she says, her voice low and lit with a strange mix of amusement and concern, ] are you trying to break into places where you shouldn't be?
[ Even before she reaches out to him, his keen ears have clocked her approach, and his familiarity with her footfalls. He may not have been deprived of his eyesight for long, but there are a few people whose approach he would recognize with any of his senses, Feixiao first and foremost among them.
With recognition comes reassurance, not just from attempting to sneak in to the club in familiar company, but as ever, there's an undeniable comfort in having the general around. He relies on her as much as she relies on him; really, who better could he ask? ]
For now, that's only a matter of perspective. [ Maybe he should be there! Maybe. ] Think of less as "breaking in" and more disrupting the status quo. Surely, I can count on your assistance with that.
[ It's hardly the sort of cause that Feixiao ordinarily devotes herself to, but she never does anything halfway. Besides, if the guards at the door can't buy that an arbiter-general of the Xianzhou should be allowed in, then who can? ]
What do you say, general? Think how envious we'd make Moze.
[ marco, with his measly 2 rank, had absolutely no intention of even breathing near the high class oasis — but every now and then he finds that the hotel doesn't much care for your intent, and readjusts itself accordingly in order to fulfill what it might deem the most amusing outcome for the moment. so what had meant to be a walk back down towards the basements (apparently finished with the festivities for the evening) suddenly found him walking right where jiaoqiu had been waiting—
having come to understand the hotel never plays fair, marco doesn't even look all that surprised to find himself elsewhere entirely... no, his surprise is reserved entirely for the man currently linked around his arm. ]
I'm — ?
[ sorry falls flat on his tongue as his struggles to bring himself up to speed. ]
[Waking up and stumbling out of a closet in an overly large camper van, was not Naoto's idea of a good morning. It got worse when she'd realised someone had removed her clothing and redressed her in just a robe.
At least it was thick and fuzzy. It was several sizes too large for her, but that meant it covered up more.
So she explored the van. Trying to find... Anything really. Her own belongings, actual clothes, even a pair of slippers so she could look outside would be nice.
Coming up empty, Naoto had decided to climb into the front for the glovebox. She froze when she found a man in the driver's seat instead. Wide eyes staring at him, a fist clenching but-
He was in a robe as well. And he'd not been aggressive to her moving around. So she sighed, muscles loosening as she looked at the dashboard.]
You won't be getting far at all... There's no fuel.
[ It's not even that Seimei particularly wants to live in high class accomodations. The luxuries certainly beat being regulated to the lower floors and left with few amenities, but that's not the reason he's drawn to the Oasis. No, he's really interested because the lounge is restricted. Who doesn't want to at least see what's so special about an exclusive place? And being told what he can't do only makes it more appealing.
That's why Seimei happens to be lingering outside the entrance of the lounge, trying to avoid security as he decides what he's going to do. Just as he's making his decision and drawing closer, he's suddenly swept up by a stranger and led away from the door, out of sight of the general traffic. ]
Oh? A break?
[ Seimei looks around them. There's no sign of any partners or thugs that he can see. ]

That game is vulgar. [Looking at the word 'genitals' on the dice like....... wtf.] Even less of a reason to play it with just anyone.

Sniffing an elbow.

bless sunday, he's doing his best

aftercare;
anyway, jing yuan does not stir when jiaoqiu leaves the bed - odd, really, considering his militaristic reflexes - but not only had the party exhausted him, the familiar scent of someone he knew nearby was more than enough to settle the alarm bells going off behind closed eyelids.
so on he sleeps, until a gentle voice rouses him, and jing yuan's eyes flicker open. ]
Ah, mm.. [ using his knuckles to wipe the sleep from his eyes, jing yuan chuckles, the sound sleepy and rough. ] .. I did not, good doctor. How nice it is to meet you again, Jiaoqiu-xiansheng.

[ It's spicy af. ]

C. High Class Oasis
Even though he doesn't have any trouble getting around, just in. She's no fan of the House's ranking system, so subverting the rules to give this guy a little break is fine by her. ]
Sorry I'm late. Were you waiting long?
no subject
So yes, he wants to be a menace, but a menace for a good cause, at least?? ]
Not at all. Besides, your company is always worth the wait.
[ She's picked right up on what he's putting down — they're off to a good start! As he starts to steer them back towards the club door: ]
How have you found the festivities so far? Is the marathon of merriment to your liking?
d
No, [ She answers croakily, both crimson eyes blinking open slowly. She makes absolutely no movement to sit up, though she does lift her head a bit from the pillow to get a better look at him — eyes darting to those ears. ] You're making tea?
[ She can smell the floral notes of peony and seeds, specially attuned to flowers as she is.
no subject
At least he stayed lucid enough during the party to know he isn't to blame for that. ]
I am. The smell isn't too disruptive, I hope. [ It's a concoction of subtle and strong scents, and though it's not unpleasant, it's certainly distinct. ] If you're seeking a cure for a hangover, I can promise it's worth a peculiar smell and taste, however.
[ And then, with a bit more cheek: ]
Good morning.

e. which is kind of like c but with crossdressing as discussed
Good thing you caught me before I got there.
the ideal kind of prompt tbh
Well, it wouldn't be the first time he's passed for a woman. Crossing an arm across his chest to obscure his total lack of cleavage, he holds a fan to obscure his lips, uttering a demure and gentle laugh. ]
Then fates are in our favor tonight, it seems. [ His natural tone of voice is soft, but he affects it to sound a few pitches higher. ] That's just where I was heading myself. I hear the tea is near ambrosial to those weary from merriment.
Let's be on our way, shall we? [ A girlish little titter. Is he overdoing it?? ]
as promised, I did the thing...! also c. ♥

Think how envious we'd make Moze.

having come to understand the hotel never plays fair, marco doesn't even look all that surprised to find himself elsewhere entirely... no, his surprise is reserved entirely for the man currently linked around his arm. ]
I'm — ?
[ sorry falls flat on his tongue as his struggles to bring himself up to speed. ]
A break? What do you mean...?
parking, I laughed so I had to
At least it was thick and fuzzy.

Just what did you have in mind, my friend?
[ They're apparently friends now. ]
