TDM 05

【 Thank you for choosing the Golden Peacock, 5-star resort and casino. You are currently registered as a WILDCARD in our system.
Due to a high volume of check-ins, temporary accommodations have been made in our KING SUITES for all new arrivals. We will endeavor to have all guests moved into their reserved rooms as soon as possible. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience.
As a token of our gratitude for your understanding, front reception has arranged for a GRAND FEAST to welcome our newest guests. The attendance of all guests is required. The house will enforce compliance.
Please note that rank-appropriate attire is mandatory. Guests found breaking social code may be disciplined. We hope you enjoy your stay! 】

ARRIVAL
DIVINE AWAKENING

All King suites have been set to the Heavenly setting for the comfort of these new Wildcards. To call this place a room feels like a misnomer; all of the senses scream that this is a real temple at the top of a crisp oceanside mountain. The only clue that this place isn't what it seems is the door in the distance. It stands dark against light, a stark rectangle distinctly out of place.
New arrivals aren't waking up alone. Reception would never expect their guests to wake up in a cold bed. All new guests will be waking up next to another Wildcard or a current guest snatched up from the hallways. Guests waking up in these heavenly King suites will wake dressed in sheer white tunics and togas that leave very little to the imagination.
GILDED CAGE
AN ENDLESS FEAST

Rugs and cushions have been laid out for low rank guests. All high rank guests have thrones and benches covered in crushed velvet and delicate linens. Wildcards have a seat of honor amongst it all, each fresh new divine lead to the grand dais for their own semi-private tent with daybed and eager servants.
Low ranks are carefully watched by security and wait staff. Some low rank guests may even be dragged in by resort staff to assist serving high rank guests and Wildcards. All high rank guests and Wildcards are revered and catered to during the feast. Low rank guests are expected to feed them, rub their feet, and comply with any whimsical demands. Any low rank guest that defies a higher ranked guest is at risk of being shackled, forced to scrub chamber pots, and other humiliating punishments.

PHOENIX CASINO
ALEA IACTA EST

The game tables are abuzz. Special games have kicked off in honor of the new godlings that are waiting to check in. Even here, those of different ranks are distinct from one another. The lowest ranks wear small slips of clothing. Some are even collared to show they belong to a particular royal or Wildcard. Royals and Wildcards dress luxuriously in thick robes and golden jewelry.
Game managers clap and encourage guests of all ranks to join in on the fun. While there are numerous card games, slot machines, and raffles happening around the casino, staff are promoting three events in particular.
BEAK
ENTERTAIN YOUR BETTERS

Beneath the open arena is a smaller closed arena and the warrior’s bunk. Warriors will find cold showers, rustic wooden benches, and training weapons available for their use. Deep in the earth is a grimy prison where servants who refuse to battle are thrown to wait for their turn. There are also cages where the hungry “animals” wait to go out and entertain the masses.
A long track rings around the perimeter of the arena. Gone is the standard green fuzz and white lines, replaced with stone and dust to elicit the real feeling of running beneath the hot Grecian sun. Foot and chariot races take place throughout the day.
TALON
SHOW OF STRENGTH

Servants that appear too fragile to handle mud wrestling have been conscripted into the oil bearer role. Their job is to slather the warriors in oil from head to toe, and otherwise prepare them for their matches in either the arena or in the pit. This includes styling their hair, tending to their wounds, and wiping the sweat off of their bodies if so desired.
The locker rooms that connect Beak and Talon have been fully stocked with first aid kits and luxury bathing supplies. Warriors that have won their matches get first pick, leaving the dirty towels and shampoo that smells like ass for the losers to sift through. Those sneaky ghost hands are having a field day, snapping rat tails at unsuspecting bathers and locking naked warriors together in the supply closet. Guests lacking vigilance may find their bottoms unexpectedly pinched.

INDULGENCE
DESIRES FROM THE VOID

Things begin to move around the resort. The forgotten and the old exhale a dusty breath. Like the hunger that the Wildcards woke up with upon arrival, as its heart begins to beat quicker, there is a tension in the air of those things hungering to feed. To join in, and indulge. To get what they want.
And they’re coming out.

"Save you? Perhaps. At the very least, I'll complain roundly if you rope me into getting lost with you."
no subject
"I mean, being lost together has its charm. We could find our way to some place no one else goes...or find where it has the most dust." Chika's eyes were sparkling. It was easy to act as if they'd just met somewhere normal, and go back and forth. There had been no nerves, no massage. Just chatting.
"Though I wouldn't mind the complaining. You'd have earned it five times over if I'd gotten us lost. Specially if it was somewhere you were familiar with."
no subject
"There's a much more dingy area that I don't recommend. Absolutely horrendous, ran by someone who thinks dirty tables and musty food make the place feel more 'real.'"
In spite of the way Vil sniffed and spoke of the Roost, there was a begrudging respect there. J was the master of his little domain, while the rest of the resort remained a mystery in just who controlled it all.
"But I don't know. You don't strike me as the type to easily get lost."
no subject
Chika though wanted to find the utility rooms and generators. Not to mess with them just...to see how they worked.
"Musty food? Sounds wonderful. As for getting lost...well." His lips twitched. "Only when I'm about to get in trouble, elsewise."
no subject
The conversation they've wandered into did warrant mentioning something else, though. "Try to enjoy the unlimited food and drink while you can. Once you're assigned a room, the free ride's over unless you happen to end up a royal suit."
no subject
But that came to a screeching halt as Vil mentioned the food situation.
"Beg your pardon?" He stared at the other man, cocking his eyebrow. "D'we all get some sort of job around the place or something?"
Because as Vil may have noticed, Chika needed to establish a lot. Like a lot a lot.
no subject
"You really haven't found out much about this place yet, have you?" It was probably unfair to ask, considering it had taken some time before he had figured out what was expected of them in the resort.
"Once all of this stops and you're assigned a room, you're responsible for any clothes, food, and other things you need." That in itself wasn't shocking, but Vil continued on without pause. "Your main ways of earning chips for items are through sex and gambling."
no subject
He could also go around being a complete idiot without a thought in his head.
A hand raked through his hair and he blew out a slow breath.
"I wasn't thinking much of anything. Don't know much of anything either. The sex? Figured something was up from the togas. The payment?"
His expression was more serious. Not panicked like before but..he sighed, folding his own arms over his chest. "I didn't realize it was so..calculated. Should have, considering."
He made a face. "Dang. My jaw is gonna get real sore. So's my jaw."
no subject
"Yes, well, if you can joke about what's going on, you're in a better place than some." He glanced around with a wry look before continuing on. "Look in your Watch sometime for the rules for Game 52. That should explain the sex transactions around here. I personally try to avoid it all, but it's undoubtedly the more consistent way to make money here."
He wasn't doing badly for himself, but he did have to be a bit more careful with his spending as a result of opting out of the 'easier' route.
no subject
"There's no point of getting all worked up about something I can't change." He shrugged, and made an annoyed face. He had a room, and he'd have a watch. The problem would be getting the food.
"And I won't be able to do my usual work which sucks. I love my job, but they won't want me to mess around with the system. I could screw things up real well- or hurt myself."
Or release things that weren't supposed to be out among the others.
"So you gamble? What's the usual games?" He might have to take the easier route for now. But it was good to know his options. "And...would it be possible to give each other chips?"
He liked Vil. And he owed him. If Vil didn't want to throw himself into it, and was in need, then he'd back him with his gambling.
no subject
"I suppose you could eventually spend your time buying broken things cheap so you can fix them yourself. There's probably some sort of store like that somewhere around here." It could probably be another way to handle trading, which was another thing to detail.
"You can trade chips. Sometimes the House or other gamblers will wage item or clothing vouchers, so trading isn't just done in sex and chips." He looked to the ceiling for a moment, shaking his head as he tried to think of all the different casino games he had played since arriving. "The casino is huge, so I imagine anything that you can think of can be played there. Slots, roulette, poker, blackjack... If you're easily influenced by the hype of other players around you, I'd avoid the high stakes tables."
He wasn't usually so thorough in warning a newcomer, but Chika's level of sincerity made him just a little worried, age be damned. He didn't want to steer him wrong.
no subject
And the information was far more interesting and important than playing any game.
"Suppose I could fix things. Or cook, if there's a need in the lower ranks." He didn't know if they had proper food or what for those who weren't high enough.
"I'd be better off away from the high stakes- or most of the gambling games." He admitted. "Not unless I'm some sort of fight. And even then, I know I'll lose my head."
He grimaced, rubbing the back of his neck. It wasn't something he liked admitting, but Vil had already seen him panic over food. There wasn't much else that could be concealed at this point.
"It might be better- for me at least- to play the game. Maybe form a partnership with someone who knows what they're doing. We'll see."
no subject
He looked back at Chika when he heard him mention losing his head. He still didn't know the extent of what that meant, considering the implication of violence, but it seemed more intense knowing there was magic in his world. "Is it the stress of the whole situation? Some sort of trigger that you're concerned about?"
Curses and poisons were the specialties of his dorm. The least he could do was see if it was something he could handle.
no subject
"Do they even get a fridge?" He muttered- mostly to himself, under his breath. He didn't think he had any reason to be ranked high. Or low. He was just a weird limbo that came with being a wildcard right now, and he wasn't sure what to think of it. Or what else would be the best course of action but to play along.
"It's more of an impulse thing. Not a curse or any of that- it's just me." He grimaced. "That's not involved with the stuff my body does when I reach my limits. That's just more..."
He clicked his tongue. "Easily excitable? Easily hooked? When it comes to stuff like that."
no subject
"Like I said, enjoy this as much as you can for now. You may not have to worry about amenities or such at all once you're assigned a room, but it will be different from this."
He considered sitting down again, deciding against it so he could try catching sight of others falling to possible side effects. Even then, he could try understanding what Chika was explaining. "Easily stimulated into action?" he ventured.
no subject
"I don't need much, but I appreciate the heads up." He liked having the simpler things in life. In fact, he'd miss making his own food and puttering around his own kitchen.
"But...yeah. Like I said- it's a me thing. Action helps me focus, slow things down. But that's going to make me get into debt in the worst way possible."
no subject
"...Has this been an issue before? Something you have to be careful about?" Perhaps it was too early to take action on some things, but knowledge was key. "If you don't mind me prying."
no subject
"But yeah. Gambling hasn't been a vice of mine, but that's because I've avoided it. Because it's falls under that same umbrella of other things I did when I was younger and stupider."
As if his stupidity could be worse. "Things that offer a cheap thrill. I don't want to get into debt just because I want the thrill of winning."
no subject
"Perhaps I can help once you have a better idea of how badly-- how quickly you fall into the gambling pit. A curse that debilitates you if you lose over a thousand chips." His offer wasn't given in jest, but there was definitely room to refine the idea. "I can't imagine it would be simple to keep yourself out of debt here if you happen to have an addictive personality."
He didn't know anyone personally who had fallen into such hard times due to the casino, but that didn't mean he wasn't exposed to seeing people demean themselves for chips on the floor.
no subject
"It might depend on what else is going on at the time." Chika was trying to be honest. It felt as if he was, in a way, falling into debt with Vil- he'd helped him so much already. But maybe he could pay him back. With repairs, with cooking- it didn't have to be the other route. They'd have to see.
"Especially if I'm under the influence of this place or something else- maybe something someone can do as a prank or whatever." He shrugged. "But you're right. It wouldn't be hard at all. That curse would have to be...something painful. Maybe even losing mobility or something so I'd walk away."
Chika grimaced. "I don't know how your curses work so...what would it be? Like some sort of mark or something?"
no subject
"I suppose it would depend on what is effective for you." Vil was vague about the specifics of his signature spell, if simply because its flexibility was its strength. "I could curse a bottle of water so something happens when you ingest it. Or draw a mark on you that will flare--" Ah. That sounded too much like the suit marks they had.
He shook his head and continued on. "We can discuss it more should you feel you need it."
no subject
Especially when sexual matters was no big deal for Chika. Relationships- Romance- was harder.
"We can cross that bridge when we get to it." He agreed. "I'll have to get the chips to actually get into trouble first. If there fights- if it's possible, I can bet on myself. That'd be safe."
