TDM 05

【 Thank you for choosing the Golden Peacock, 5-star resort and casino. You are currently registered as a WILDCARD in our system.
Due to a high volume of check-ins, temporary accommodations have been made in our KING SUITES for all new arrivals. We will endeavor to have all guests moved into their reserved rooms as soon as possible. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience.
As a token of our gratitude for your understanding, front reception has arranged for a GRAND FEAST to welcome our newest guests. The attendance of all guests is required. The house will enforce compliance.
Please note that rank-appropriate attire is mandatory. Guests found breaking social code may be disciplined. We hope you enjoy your stay! 】

ARRIVAL
DIVINE AWAKENING

All King suites have been set to the Heavenly setting for the comfort of these new Wildcards. To call this place a room feels like a misnomer; all of the senses scream that this is a real temple at the top of a crisp oceanside mountain. The only clue that this place isn't what it seems is the door in the distance. It stands dark against light, a stark rectangle distinctly out of place.
New arrivals aren't waking up alone. Reception would never expect their guests to wake up in a cold bed. All new guests will be waking up next to another Wildcard or a current guest snatched up from the hallways. Guests waking up in these heavenly King suites will wake dressed in sheer white tunics and togas that leave very little to the imagination.
GILDED CAGE
AN ENDLESS FEAST

Rugs and cushions have been laid out for low rank guests. All high rank guests have thrones and benches covered in crushed velvet and delicate linens. Wildcards have a seat of honor amongst it all, each fresh new divine lead to the grand dais for their own semi-private tent with daybed and eager servants.
Low ranks are carefully watched by security and wait staff. Some low rank guests may even be dragged in by resort staff to assist serving high rank guests and Wildcards. All high rank guests and Wildcards are revered and catered to during the feast. Low rank guests are expected to feed them, rub their feet, and comply with any whimsical demands. Any low rank guest that defies a higher ranked guest is at risk of being shackled, forced to scrub chamber pots, and other humiliating punishments.

PHOENIX CASINO
ALEA IACTA EST

The game tables are abuzz. Special games have kicked off in honor of the new godlings that are waiting to check in. Even here, those of different ranks are distinct from one another. The lowest ranks wear small slips of clothing. Some are even collared to show they belong to a particular royal or Wildcard. Royals and Wildcards dress luxuriously in thick robes and golden jewelry.
Game managers clap and encourage guests of all ranks to join in on the fun. While there are numerous card games, slot machines, and raffles happening around the casino, staff are promoting three events in particular.
BEAK
ENTERTAIN YOUR BETTERS

Beneath the open arena is a smaller closed arena and the warrior’s bunk. Warriors will find cold showers, rustic wooden benches, and training weapons available for their use. Deep in the earth is a grimy prison where servants who refuse to battle are thrown to wait for their turn. There are also cages where the hungry “animals” wait to go out and entertain the masses.
A long track rings around the perimeter of the arena. Gone is the standard green fuzz and white lines, replaced with stone and dust to elicit the real feeling of running beneath the hot Grecian sun. Foot and chariot races take place throughout the day.
TALON
SHOW OF STRENGTH

Servants that appear too fragile to handle mud wrestling have been conscripted into the oil bearer role. Their job is to slather the warriors in oil from head to toe, and otherwise prepare them for their matches in either the arena or in the pit. This includes styling their hair, tending to their wounds, and wiping the sweat off of their bodies if so desired.
The locker rooms that connect Beak and Talon have been fully stocked with first aid kits and luxury bathing supplies. Warriors that have won their matches get first pick, leaving the dirty towels and shampoo that smells like ass for the losers to sift through. Those sneaky ghost hands are having a field day, snapping rat tails at unsuspecting bathers and locking naked warriors together in the supply closet. Guests lacking vigilance may find their bottoms unexpectedly pinched.

INDULGENCE
DESIRES FROM THE VOID

Things begin to move around the resort. The forgotten and the old exhale a dusty breath. Like the hunger that the Wildcards woke up with upon arrival, as its heart begins to beat quicker, there is a tension in the air of those things hungering to feed. To join in, and indulge. To get what they want.
And they’re coming out.

[ For five seconds, then he looks genuinely both pleased, then worried to the question on the Grand Line. He doesn't actually want anyone from home stuck in this place, after all. Sure, he doesn't even know Sanji, but knowing he is clearly from the same world, Shanks feels a little protective. Just a bit. ]
Yes. I do know what it is. [ Not going to explain in detail how, or that is where he last was. ] Clearly you do, as well. Also a pirate?
The way things are accomplished are...fantastical. [ Shanks shrugs one shoulder. ] But, apparently, pirates are also fantastical to some here.
no subject
From the moment he says the word, he can almost sense the recognition coming off of the man and that brings a sense of relief. Not that he wants anyone else to be trapped here either, but after the past couple of days, it’s nice to have that sense of normalcy brought by someone that’s from where he’s from and knows exactly what he’s talking about. Even another twist of hunger low in his gut does nothing to disrupt the look of relief that washes across his face. ]
Yeah, I’m a cook on a pirate ship. We were on our way to the Grand Line when… this happened. And I grew up working for a former pirate, too. You ever hear of Red Leg Zeff? [ There’s a hint of fondness in Sanji’s voice as he mentions his savior and maybe a glimmer of that on his face and in his eyes, too. ] Used to be a Captain before he opened up the Baratie.
[ His good mood is only slightly soured by the reminder of where they are. As a rule, Sanji likes sex, but everything about the way this place works is wrong. ] Hard to believe there are places where there are no pirates. [ It’s then that he realizes he hasn’t actually given his name to the other man and extends a hand— making sure it’s the one he can actually take— towards him. ] I’m Sanji.
no subject
[ Been ten years since he was in East Blue, as well, so he missed the Baratie entirely, as well. ]
It is. But it was hard to believe there was a place that could keep people captive like this.
Sanji? [ Shanks' eyes widen a fraction, and that flicker of recognition comes through once more, this time tinged with a slither of sadness. He refuses to let it show in his full expression, or his response - it's best Luffy isn't here, truly, and he's happy Luffy is free, at least - but just saying Luffy's name feels like a blow. He still enjoys talking about him, though, so the feelings are mixed and bittersweet. ]
Luffy's chef Sanji? [ Yes, Shanks is hung up on that, for now, and still doesn't give his own name. Not yet. He does, however, extend his right hand to take Sanji's and give it a firm, grateful shake. ]
no subject
[ His smile shrinks by the tiniest fraction as he thinks about why— the wave of hunger rushing through him makes the memory especially sharp— but doesn’t falter. ] Head chef and owner of the Baratie now. Best damn food in the East Blue.
[ Whatever he was going to say next is interrupted by the shred of recognition in Shanks’ eyes and in the tone of his voice. One thing’s certain— he has no idea who this man is and has never met him before. He looks at Shanks curiously, frowning, brow knit together, as he tries again, just to be safe, to recall if he’s met him before—
And then he doesn’t have to. This time, it’s Sanji’s eyes that open up a fraction, head bobbing in a quick nod. ]
You know Luffy?! I mean, yeah, he’s my Captain. [ He’s shaking Shank’s hand back, mind racing, because he’s been with Luffy from the day he left the Baratie behind to the night he went to sleep and woke up here and they never met this man, which means… ] Is he here?
no subject
I'll have to keep Baratie in mind if I make it back to East Blue.
[ Does he know Luffy. Shanks gives a soft chuckle from the back of his throat, his smile strained. ]
Luffy was a dear friend I knew back when I was in the East Blue. It's been a good ten years, now, though. You have a hell of a captain.
[ He shakes his head, smile faltering for a moment. His eyes flicker away again, but find Sanji once more as he tries to give him a reassuring smile. ] He was, but left recently. It's for the best. He really shouldn't be trapped here.
[ Then, finally. ] I'm Shanks. [ He's certain he doesn't have to add the Red Hair part. Sanji either has heard of him, or he hasn't. ]
no subject
He doesn’t say anything. There’s not really a point to doing so in Sanji’s mind. Zeff never liked to be reminded about his sacrifice, and he doesn’t want to press in case he’s wrong. He doubts anyone likes to be reminded about that kind of thing. ] Luffy’s a good man. One of the best I know. Wouldn’t have followed him, otherwise.
[ After all, he could have left Sanji and Zeff alone to deal with Arlong, and hadn’t. He could have left Nami behind and set sail for the Grand Line, and hadn’t. There’s something special about Luffy, something he’s only just learning to comprehend. ]
Ah. [ For a moment, he looks a little crest-fallen, but the more he thinks about it, the more he agrees with Shanks. ] I have a hard time imagining him here, yeah. It’s… it’s good he’s gone.
[ There’s no hint of recognition in Sanji’s eyes when Shanks introduces himself, but there is a friendly smile on his face. ] Good to meet you, Shanks. Any friend of Luffy’s is welcome at my table anytime.
no subject
Even now, he's still far too quick to run his mouth, but he remains one of the best I've known, as well. [ After a decade, with the amount of people Shanks' has met, that is saying something. ]
[ He understands, too, the emptiness without him. His expression softens when Sanji looks crest-fallen, and it deepens when Sanji agrees with him. ]
You'll see him again. [ There's an ease at not being recognized, and leaves Shanks far more comfortable with this meeting. Less expectation, that way. He lifts his glass. ] To Luffy. To new friends.
no subject
There’s some comfort to be found in the reassurance that Shanks’ provides, even if everything Sanji’s heard so far suggests that getting home— seeing the rest of his crewmates— isn’t an easy or straightforward process. It would be easier to deal with being here if it was, if there were a simple recipe for going home beyond just playing the resort’s game and hoping you win. Gambling’s never been his forte, after all. He’ll take risks, and got banned from the kitchen more than once for it, but a risk is a different thing entirely from a gamble. ]
We both will, yeah? [ At the very least, Luffy needs someone to cook for him and that’s Sanji’s role, what he’s good for. He might be able to find another cook, but it’s his job on the crew and he doesn’t want to let everyone else down. Lifting the glass, he clinks it against Shanks’, still smiling. ] To Luffy. And new friends. And getting out of this shitty resort one day.
[ The sip of wine does nothing to alleviate the gnawing pit in his stomach, but it’s good stuff that he can at least savor and appreciate. ] Shitty as it is, at least they know their food and wine. Rum’s good?
no subject
[ As for risks, Shanks will take them, and gamble. He just takes too long before he makes his move. He is gathering what information he can, but they might be stuck for twenty years if everything is left up to him. ]
[ He smiles back to Sanji's words, and notes the kindness in saying that. It wasn't necessary, after all. ] Of course. We both. And [ Shanks gestures with his glass around the ] the others from our world, of course.
[ Because Shanks isn't going anywhere without Nami and Buggy. He would also like to get everyone else free, but Buggy and Nami are an personal situation. ]
And getting out of this shitty resort. [ Shanks laughs as he completes the cheer, then knocks back the rum. ] The rum is, yes. Though, I was talking with someone else from home, and we're inclined to agree - it's better in our world. They know how to make it just right.
[ Or they - Buggy and Shanks - have biases. ]
no subject
It’s the same with the wine, you know? [ There’s quiet laughter, but he’s clearly still thinking about the idea of others from their world being here, swirling the glass of wine and staring into it. What he wouldn’t give for a cigarette right now. ] It’s good, but it’s not a Micqueot vintage, that’s certain.
[ There’s a brief pause as he keeps staring into the glass and then looks back up at Shanks, curiosity and uncertainty lingering in his gaze. ]
When you say there are others from our world here… do you know if any of the rest of my crew is here? [ Even though his feelings on the matter are complex, there’s a note of longing in his voice that can’t be missed, a desire to be at home again. And then— even though Shanks knew his name because Luffy told it to him— he lists them out one by one, just in case. ] Nami, or Usopp, or Zoro? Are any of them here?
no subject
[ Shanks' eyes, casually, narrow as he peers at Sanji, letting his curiosity churn at the mention of the wine vintage. He smiles at the end. ] You're from North Blue, then?
[ As for the crew, Shanks takes a little bit more of the food before he continues. ] Zoro was here for a short time, but he's gone. Nami, however, remains. And is a queen. [ His smile turns fairly warm when he speaks of Nami, along with his tone. ] It suits her.
no subject
[ And then a moment later, his past isn’t even something he’s remotely thinking about. Hearing that Zoro was here but left is a slight blow, but he’d never show that on his face, not when it comes to the green-haired swordsman that still refuses to admit how much he enjoys his cooking. His face lights up when he hears that Nami is here— eyes bright, grin brighter— even though he feels conflicted about that. ]
Damn. Hope Zoro and Luffy made it home together. [ That would be ideal. Sanji might not get along with Zoro, but that way, Luffy’ll have someone around to watch his back. ] Nami’s really here… and a queen… yeah, that suits her. I need to find her as soon as I can. [ He pauses and then asks another question. ] Is she doing okay? I guess so if she’s a queen, but… she’s part of our crew. I gotta make sure she’s okay.
no subject
I would hope so, as well. They disappeared around the same time, so they should be home. Together. [ As for Nami.... ]
She is. Perhaps bereft with the absence of her crew, but that only means your presence should comfort her. [ Not that Shanks doubted Luffy picked loyal and caring crew members, but Sanji's reactions and words confirm that the other crew care for each other, and he's glad to know it. ]
I could tell you where her suite is?
no subject
His face softens at the news that Luffy and Zoro left at the same time and something like hope blooms in him that they’re safe and together back on the Merry. Waiting for Nami, and now, for him, too. ]
Shit, I can imagine. I was feeling pretty damn bereft a few moments ago. [ It was barely two weeks ago— give or take— when he’d still been back on the Baratie, still working the line, the drudgery of churning out an endless parade of well-done steak gnawing away at his patience and sanity. That he’s come to care this much about these people in so short time is a testament to how special they are.
Relief floods across his face and Shanks’ off and he nods decisively, a broad grin stretched across his face. ] I’d appreciate that. I think she would, too. [ A pause. ] I owe you for that, Shanks. I won’t forget it.
no subject
[ Shanks nods his head, feeling the emptiness and lack of his crew, as well. The food is good, here, but it's not Lucky Roux's, and the booze never hits right. He was a little more pleased at getting to see Luffy again, and he won't deny this chance to be with Buggy and get to know Nami better - will never turn down the chance to meet and get to know new people - but bereft is a good word for the feeling that chases him down when he's not on his guard. ]
[ He empathizes easily with that position Nami and Sanji are in. For now, the least he can do is reunite them. ]
[ Owe him? Nonsense. Shanks lifts his hand to wave off the very idea, but starts to smirk, even as he does. ] Not at all.
But, I have heard from Luffy how great your cooking is. You could make me some rice to prove his boasting correct. We could easily call it even after that.
I'll take you now, if you like?
no subject
I’ll make you whatever you want— fried rice, a nice steak, a good curry. Just tell me whatever it is you want and I’ll make it, free of charge. [ His eyes light up as he says it, a big grin on his face. Cooking is Sanji’s passion, after all, and having the opportunity to make something for someone who helped him is definitely something he enjoys. ] I gotta defend my Captain’s reputation while he’s away.
[ His eyes sweep out over the vast array of gauzy tents where the other deities and royals are set-up. Now that he knows Nami’s a queen, he’s half tempted to search each one until he finds her. She’s probably here, somewhere, and they just haven’t run into her yet.
Searching for her might not yield any results, though, and knowing where her suite is… well, that would be a lot more helpful. So he nods, done with the food anyway, hunger pangs still refusing to relent and starts to rise. ]
I’d like that. [ He grins as he says it and then gestures at the bottle of rum with a couple of fingers. ] Don’t forget that, yeah? Don’t want some other servant who appreciates rum less to walk off with it.
no subject
Fried rice would be wonderful. [ The steak is a bit tempting, though. ] Especially made by someone decent so I don't have to worry the food has aphrodisiacs in it. [ Not that that particular fact stops Shanks from eating, or seems like he is that worried about it. ]
[ There's a laugh as he, plucks up the rum bottle. ] Thank you, of course. This is mine, now.
[ He cants his head to the royal tents. He's still not used to the watches they have, so it's only an after thought. ] You could text her, though. It might be faster.
no subject
Consider it done. [ There’s a soft chuckle as he nods his head, a burst of frustrated exasperation that they need to worry about aphrodisiacs at all making his eyebrow twitch a moment later. ] Shit, yeah, any food I make is safe. That’s part of my code as a cook. [ Not that he’ll always have a choice about what he eats, probably, but at the very least, he can guarantee that anything he cooks won’t be tainted.
He tosses another grin as Shanks grabs the bottle, nodding with satisfaction. He didn’t order that rum for it to go to waste and, again, he owes him enough that it’s the least he can do for the moment. ]
Text? [ As unused to the watches as Shanks is, Sanji’s even less used to them. ] What’s that?
no subject
As previously discussed, you do have to be careful with the food here. I don't think the cooks here have the same outlook you do.
[ Shanks' eyebrows furrow for a moment. ] They really should give a run down of the technology here for those unfamiliar with it.
In my case, it's more of a vocal message that turns into text, but you can use your watch to communicate with others in multiple ways. The Video and voice options are much like using a transponder snail, just not as in tune with you, personally.
[ He gives his Watch voice comments to the text page, then tells it to send a message to Sanji. If Sanji looks at his Watch when it pings, it will give him a message from Shanks:
Welcome to Golden Peacock, Sanji. :) ]
I'm sure you'll figure it out.
no subject
He laughs at Shanks’ comment a moment later and nods after glancing down at his Watch. Sanji’s confident he could probably figure it out with enough time— any good cook knows the importance of being able to adjust and improvise on the fly— but having Shanks here to give him an overview makes things go much quicker.
A moment later and his watch dings with the message. It’s so simple and quick that he has to shake his head with amazement. ]
Shit, you make it look so easy. Just like that and you can, what, send anyone here a message?
[ He repeats the process himself, with a little more difficulty, just to make sure he can reliable reproduce what Shanks has just shown him, resulting in the following message being sent to him:
thanks for all the help, shanks ]
Yeah, that was damn simple. [ He pauses and looks back down at the Watch, then up at Shanks. ] I guess I really can just message her and find out where she’s at, yeah? No need for you to show me where her suite is.
I think we're good to wrap here?
Yes. [ Shanks grins. ] It is that simple. And you should have a contact list on there, so you can search by name.
Probably best Nami tell you where her suite is, after all.
yep!! sounds good to me.
[ Actually, he probably won’t come out and ask it right away, but that’s fine. He’ll think about exactly what to send her in a few moments.
Before Shanks turns to go, though, Sanji gives him one last giant grin. ] Thanks again for all your help. Won’t forget it. And I won’t forget about that fried rice I owe you, either.
