SOMNIA-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS

1. Dreams are how Sleep chooses you. What might draw your character into Somnia— a wound, a wish, a weakness? Would they follow the dream, or run from it?

Dan Heng would be drawn in by a wish, the desperate urge to help others, and save who and what he can for the world of Amphoreus, and all worlds that the Trailblaze has touched. Protecting others is something deeply important to Dan Heng's character, and if there was even a glimmer of home for saving Amphoreus, and its people, he would grasp for it. That said, he is not a fool, nor is he a stranger to meaningful dreams, and if he sensed that what the dream was offering was false, he would hesitate, and pull away from it, preferring instead to rely on his own strength to carry him through. Still, the offer would be incredibly tempting to him, most especially if the dream were surreal enough.

2. Somnia is a slow unraveling—of worlds, and of selves. How does your character respond to fear, transformation, and losing control? Do they fight, adapt, collapse?

Dan Heng is a strong young man, with gritty character and a stalwart sense of justice. Having been born and raised in the Shackling Prison, in terrible isolation, tortured and chained, he does not buckle easily beneath the weight of fear, though it certainly depends upon the nature of that fear. If it threatens only himself, he can stand strong easily, but when others are in danger, his protective instincts kick in quickly. Transformation is also not a new concept for him, though the loss of control will be much harder for him to make peace with. Still, Dan Heng is incredibly adaptable, one must be when following the path of the Trailblaze, and he will fight the good fight for as long as he is physically able.

3. Connection is the only constant. What kind of bonds does your character form— fast and burning, slow and wary, deep and desperate? How might that shape their time in this world?

Bonding with others is in fact an important part of being a Nameless, so it's something that Dan Heng is both accustomed to and open to. He is a little bit slow to grow close with strangers, but he is a good judge of character, and often gives those he meets the benefit of the doubt, reaching out to form strong bonds, even if it takes time for the trust to build. Once he is close with someone, however, there is little he would not do for them, up to and including laying his life on the line to protect them. Aloof though he might seem on the outside, Dan Heng has a very big heart, and he feels things very intensely, very deeply, so it is very likely that he will create many strong bonds with many people, in this world, a she has on every world he has visited. It will make him hesitant to leave, should the opportunity ever arise, unwilling to leave his new companions behind in this strange world.

4. What are two major forces in your character’s personality that are often in conflict? (Ex: logic vs emotion, power vs guilt, obedience vs rage, etc.)

Dan Heng's emotions are most often at war with his better sense, so logic vs. emotion very much hits the nail on the head. As stated previously, he has a very big heart, which can occasionally cause him to be reckless when it comes to protecting others, though he tends to be very good at tempering his more irresponsible urges. He's a very intelligent, very analytical young man, which is part of what makes him seem so distant and cool, but it's constantly at war with his more sensitive, emotional heart.

VESSEL SELECTION
Which Vessel Type are you choosing: Token or Offering? Offering.
Why does this Vessel type feel appropriate for your character? Dan Heng is already no stranger to transformation and change - physically - and he is already something not quite human. Draconic blood runs in his veins, for he is a Scion of Long the Permanence, progenitor of all dragons, and is able to switch forms with ease, and full draconic transformation is incredibly sacred to his people. He is more than willing to sacrifice a little humanity for the strength needed to protect what is important to him.
Choose one OR list three subclass options within your chosen Vessel type that you think would suit them: Merrow. Dan Heng is a creature of the sea, through and through, and this form will suit him like a second skin.
