[He sees that, her acquisition of that fruit tart. That definitely does not count. He's about to shove more healthy food onto her plate, but her question stops him, just momentarily. She's definitely quite brazen, isn't she? Just asking that. But hm, does he start off with stating 'I shoot eye beams' or go with something more vague? Maybe in the interest of keeping his status on the downlow for a bit longer, he'll go with the latter.

He'll apologize for lying later, maybe, but everyone tends to keep some things to themselves at first. Even she's doing it to some extent. So, with just a couple seconds of delay, he answers conversationally, like this isn't a big deal.]

You know, some people would consider that a rude question. [He wryly remarks, but continues.] I have an eye condition. Sensitivity to light.

[The lie comes off easily, maybe practiced, because it's something he's done before when he wasn't immediately recognized. Guess he's not the only indoor ruby quartz sunglasses wearing asshole around. Isn't that a comfort? Well, he's not recognized here, that's for sure. So much comfort going around.]

Don't worry, I can still see that you aren't eating enough 'bland food.'

[This time, he scoops some of his cherry tomatoes and plops them right onto her plate as well. She didn't protest enough for him to stop last time, quite the opposite given her laugh, so he's just going to do this again. Look, he's doing it for her sake, encouraging her to eat the proper food groups instead of just sweets-- yeah, he knows he's kind of bullshitting.

A small smile lifts the corner of his mouth, despite himself.]
