He has such a hard time imagining a world where anyone might have a favorable opinion of him (or his appearance). Experiments that changed his eye color from a normal hue of blue to a colder brighter shade with a supernatural glow. Even his skin has memories of each cut, scrape, and incision scarred into it permanently.
Even the muscle tone he does have is likely from having to run or fight for his life on more than one occasion. He wishes he could say his physique is cut from rigorous fencing lessons and not from his distaste for sweets and hectic lifestyle.
And all of that adds up to leave Vanitas with feelings of confusion when he catches the way Oushi looks at him in that quick moment. Perhaps he was being genuine when Vanitas teased him earlier about being the one to make him nervous. He forces himself from that line of thought, back to the words coming out of Oushi's mouth and away from the fabric pushing down his hips or the healthy pulse he must have.]
