While Loki didn't quite have the upbringing Peter had, he could identify with a lot of this. For him it wasn't being treated like a child, but being treated like he was always going to do something wrong. Not matter what he did, or how hard he tried to do the right thing and impress his father, to be as respected as Thor, nothing ever worked. It was always assumed that he was being nefarious, trying to hurt others. It's not like he never did any of those things, but so did lots of people.

No, the real difference between him and Peter is that Peter handled things like that much better. He took his frustrations and turned them into something good. He tries to help people, wants others to be happy. Loki took his frustrations and hurt people. As much as he's still trying to be good, the guilt over that still gets to him quite often. Truly, he deserves to be stuck in a place so much worse than this. But he's still trying. Even when he participates in the games this place plays, he does his best to treat his partners with respect, to make sure they are enjoying themselves at least a little bit.

It's truly the least he can do.

Perhaps that's why he treats Peter as an equal, though the truth of it is, he thinks Peter is far superior to him. He's younger and already better at doing the right thing. Or at least that's how it seems to Loki. He knows if their roles were reversed right now, he'd likely be a lot more than a little snippy, that's for sure.

"Of course, did you think I didn't?" Loki can't help but smile at him. The look of almost surprise somehow charming.

Loki doesn't believe that for a second, but he doesn't exactly push either. "If you say so, but if you change your mind, I'm a surprisingly good listener and not going anywhere anytime soon."
