Which is about as helpful as a bucket in the middle of the ocean.
[ He rolls his eyes, letting one hand soothe up and down her spine. It's impossible to miss how tense she is, even perched on his lap as she is, and he feels compelled to try and backtrack and help her relax again. ]
I will say, at the very least, this place is relatively straightforward in its aims. We're all assigned a rank after our arrival - it's similar to the playing cards we had back home, except they call them different things here. There are four suits and they number two to ten, with three - or possibly four? - higher cards they call the face cards. Jack, Queen, King... and Ace, which fits in there somewhere but I'm not quite sure how?
I know the introduction instructed you that to win the game, you had to collect all 52 of those cards. But they give us plenty of opportunities to do so, as well as increase the rank you were initially assigned. I was originally a four of Diamonds and I'm now a seven. [ And could be higher at any time, but that's beside the point. ] The higher the rank are, the more you're respected and the better you're treated. Think of it like the commoners and nobility back home. I would say a four and below are the commoners, five through... eight, nine, maybe? are considered middle class. And ten and up are definitely the noble class.
