Well, first of all, some of the fruit skewers have strawberries on them, and he's watching to see if any of the people eating them are suffering any effects. If not, he'll buy some for himself and his stage partner, who loves strawberries!
And two, watching the "cook" bumble around and suffer various misfortunes is sort of amusing. It's odd, though. The staff are useless when it comes to things like "doing something about how gross and illegal this whole operation is," or "telling them what happened to disappeared guests." But they're usually competent at basic stuff like cooking and cleaning. So why does this staff member keep suffering so many mishaps? It's almost like...
