He can't deny that he also enjoys Monika being in his arms. Less because he can pretend she's a sweet toy in his arms or something like that, more because he likes to be as physically close to her as possible. It's great that he doesn't have to subtly beg for that...
And not seeing a soul around them, he can get away with being a little affectionate to Monika, bringing her even closer to his face so he could nuzzle against her cheek. Even when he starts walking, the affection doesn't stop up until he hears someone walking towards their direction.
