beastliness: (052.)

( And there it is - the wariness of someone looking upon a beast in a human guise. It must be hard for Sylvain to see his childhood friend when he looks at him now. Dimitri hardly blames him, and despite an ache of guilt, a reminder that this is what he deserves, he says nothing. Instead, he watches, takes in the small ways Sylvain moves, how his expression changes. What else can he say here, he can't help but wonder. What could he possibly say to make this situation easy to muddle through, to reassure Sylvain that he's talking to a friend instead of the shadow of a man he'd been only days ago?

He doesn't know if he has the words. But he does, at least, manage a soft huff of a breath that is an attempt at a laugh in response to those words. He supposes it is expected that someone would be saying those words to the prince instead of the other way around. Not that he's felt particularly like a prince in some time.
)

Yes. ( He confirms with a nod of his head, pushing himself slowly to his feet. There'd been a time, he remembers, where Sylvain had been taller than him. Broader with his age. But now they stand nearly eye to eye, and it feels strange. As if he's seeing the other man for the first time in years all over again. ) Yesterday. In a... bathtub of all places.

( He tries not to let himself get swept up in the memory of it, being naked and alone in the cold porcelain of some unknown bathroom, but the way he gives a small shake of his head says he's clearly thinking about something unpleasant. )
